If anyone has been to the Allen Library in Fort Wayne, please send me your comments... how best to research there, where to start, etc. I'm anticipating a trip in October with a local genealogical group and really looking forward to it. I've never gone to a that big a library with a group so it's quite exciting! I'm already starting to print out their holdings that are of interest in an effort to save time. Thanks! Does anyone know in which newspaper I would likely find an obituary for someone who died in West Lebanon, Maine in 1935? I am looking for the birth place of Elizabeth Marr Descary. Her death certificate says she was born in Nova Scotia in 1848, but does not provide the town. Her parents, again according to the death certificate, were John and Hannah (Smith) Marr, but I need their place of residence to conduct a more successful search. Any help would be appreciated. Does anyone know of a William BARKER from Maine who left the state between 1820- 1840? My g-g-grandfather William BARKER was born in Maine about 1800 and moved to Cobb Co Georgia (just NW of Atlanta.) The only census I have found him in was 1860 where he was in Cobb Co GA with his family- wife Nancy (Dobbs) BARKER, sons Daniel W & Andrew and daughters Miranda and Louisa (aka Eliza.) William's wife was born in GA and his children were born in GA from 1841-1848 (plus son William born in 1861.) I am trying to connect William BARKER to his Maine roots.Anyone researching BARKER families in Maine? Anyone have a Maine ancestor who moved to Georgia between 1820-1850? I suspect some other friends or relatives might have moved to GA with William butI have been unable to find any links yet. At our library, (the Valparaiso Public Library, part of the Porter County Public Library system, Valparaiso, Indiana), we are working on a project of indexing all the obituaries which have appeared in our local newspaper since it began in the 1800s. We have completed the years from 1967 to 1994 and they are accessible on our web site (pcpls.lib.in.us - then click on Genealogy Department\Obituary Index). Some of the years beyond 1994 have been completed and others are being typed in. They aren't placed on our site until an entire year is finished. We have all of the obituaries so if this one isn't for you but you'd like to know if we have a particular one, please contact me. The newspaper covers Northwest Indiana - primarily Porter and Lake counties but does include other areas as well. While working on 2002 today, I noticed that the woman in one obituary was born in Albion, Maine. I couldn't find Albion on the map so I'm sending it to this list in hopes that one of you will send it on to whatever list it should go to. There's a photograph also so if someone is researching her line, I'd be happy to make a copy of the obituary. This may not SEEM genealogically related, but it is. The "Blaisdell Family National Association"* genealogical PAF data base is on a PC South Berwick, NH and we are in need of a computer tech to remove a disk drive, for shipment to Florida so we can back up the data, convert it and load it to a new PC to ship back. It would be a good idea if he could "ghost" the drive before shipping as a precaution. We may also need him to hook up the monitor, modem after we ship it back to NH and give some overview of the differences between Windows 95 and Windows 2000 Professional So if you have any recommendations of someone you have used (or have first hand knowledge) for that kind of work, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks, Philip Freimann, President Blaisdell Family National Association www.blaisdel.org * - IRS Non-profit 501(c)7
Greetings Fellow Listers, I am relatively new to your list and have been listening and have decided to post my connections to York County in hopes I can find out some more information as well as perhaps connect with a "cousin" or something. I descend from SAMUEL RAMSELL born abt 1766 died 4 Mar 1848( also found spelled RAMSDELL) and his wife ELIZABETH MORRILL born 9 August 177o died 31 Aug 1847( also spelled MERRILL or MORRELL). They are found in the Parsonfield York County Census for 1820 and 1830. Many members of their family died around 1847. Does anyone know of any type of out break that occured about that time? I am trying to find where and when exactly SAMUEL RAMSELL was born as well as if what I suspect is true and that ELIZABETH MORRILL is the daughter of DAVID MORRILL and SARAH LEWIS of NORTH BERWICK/BERWICK, York County,ME. SAMUEL and ELIZABETH had at least the following children: ANNA( m a JOHN EMERY) JOHN ,GEORGE( m. to a SALLY SCRIGGINS) and IRA(M. to a MARTHA WENTWORTH) Supposedly they are buried in a small cemetery outside of Parsonsfieild along with some of their grandchildren. John and Ira both lived in Cornish for a time. Any connections? any help out there? Thanks for "listening" Sincerely Yvonne Ramsell Simonson
