Hi, Received notification from an attendee to FGS annual conference (3-6 Sept.2003) that the Family History Library catalog www.familysearch.org is now scheduled to be updated every 3 hrs. during the work week, a minimum of once a day. Previously, the most up-to-date catalog was only available at FHL itself at the reference deks. This renders almost obsolete the CDs and microfiche versions of the FHL Catalog available at the FHCs. This also means that researchers can visit the most up-to-date catalog online from any internet connection including home computers. There are severalmethods for getting to the online catalog at above URL. One method is to click the LIBRARY tab, and then click on the FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG link on the horizontal navigation bar. Search options include: --place --surname --keyword --title --author --subject --call number --fiche/film number to locate resources including indexes, histories, compiled genealogies, and filmed original documents to help w/ your ancestral quest. This new plan is the most cost effective wayof distributing the catalog information to millions of researchers throughout the world. Happy family tree climbing! Toby Hurley
I have been puzzling about my GGGGrandfather, who has ties to ME and MA like your Fisher / Davis enquiry. FULL NAME: William R. DAVIS BORN: 1819 of Boston on marriage record, but census says ME. SPOUSES: Married Isabella Weeks BRADBURY 24 Mar 1846 (ints 27 Feb 1846) Kittery, York Co ME. DIED: 08 Jul 1864 Kittery OF YELLOW FEVER, York Co ME. BURIED: First Baptist Cem, Kittery Point, York Co ME. OCCUPATION: Mariner, Fisherman CHILDREN: William Franklin DAVIS (1854-1926) Lillian Isabelle? Odelia? DAVIS (~1859-1952) Ann Elizabeth Plimpton DAVIS (1847-1863) Ellen Maria Peabody DAVIS (~1849-1865) Charles Van Buren DAVIS (1856-1876) Alvina Watson DAVIS (~1851-1934) Note that William Franklin was living with a Capt and Mrs Plimpton (where? why?) at time of his father's death and older his sister has Plimpton as a middle name.... Have you worked on James or John to see if you can take Almira back that way? Where are you located? I am in greater Boston, if you haven't done that bit maybe I could try to do a bit of digging. But I admit I have little time and many projects, so please don't expect anything too speedy!!! Today I received in the mail a copy of "History of Cape Porpoise" by Melville C. Freeman (originally printed 1955). I hadn't even known it existed until I looked through a catalog of Higginson Book Company (Salem, MA) offerings. They make prints of old, history and genealogy books. This one came nicely bound and I'm very pleased with it because I have many family members who live(d) in the Cape Porpoise area of Kennebunkport. The reprinting and binding is rather pricey, but not if it's important to a knowledge of your ancestors' lives. I would recommend it to anyone with interest in that area. Hopefully, the Kennebunkport library has a copy of it for those of you who live in York County. If anyone would like me to do lookups, I'd be happy to do so. I prefer that you wait until early November to send them as I'll be gone the entire month of October, the last two of which I'll be spending in York County doing research. An additional note: Yes, I know of and own "History of Kennebunkport" by Bradbury. Carol Dobson New Englander living in Indiana
I found this note written by my g-grandfather around 1900 and am having a difficult time finding anything about the "Fisher" or "Davis" families to which he is referring. I'm sorry to bother everyone. I have a new address and want to see if it is working as I haven't had any mail in a couple of days. Darlene
Hi listers, I apologize up front to those of you who subscribe to multiple lists and will receive this more than once. But, thought I would save those of you who have HeritageQuest images online through Godfrey and other libraries, or who have ancestry.com, the trouble of writing same when you discover that 1900 census index is unavailable to you. Images browseable, however, just no index. I was so elated when I logged onto HQO the other day through New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and saw 1900 had been added to the list of available censuses. But, I got a message that it was accessible only through my affiliate library when I tried to do a search. That means IN the library, BTW, not remotely accessing through library online. I wrote NYGBS and got the following response when I asked why it was restricted. Also said I hoped 1840, 1850, and 1930 won't be restricted indexes, too, when they are finally done by HeritageQuest. Here is answer I got: Apparently Genealogy.com has exclusive rights to the 1900 on-line index, so the Godfrey Library would not have it through their HQO subscription either. This is the only year with this restriction, so the other missing indexes should eventually be posted to the database. It is possible that ProQuest will develop their own index, but we have not received any information regarding that. I truly regret this inconvenience, but for the foreseeable future it seems that we will not have access to the 1900 index. So this says to me that ancestry.com will not have index either for 1900. FYI, Toby Hurley
I would like to thank all that responded with your infomation, i hope that we can update those who would like the information, and find relatives that we dint' have or know about....thats what this is about....and again thanks for all that have responded....

Hi Debbie, My grandmother was a member of the Order of Redmen. I have found nothing on them. I'll check back on my records. Would you be kind enough to e-mail me copies of posts you get? I'm sure interested in finding out something about them. I came across some papers of my gr-grandfather's that were for the Imperial Order of Redmen, Newichawannock Tribe # 38 in South Berwick, Maine. He was a "Sachem." Is anyone familiar with this organization? What was their purpose? Regards, Debbie
Are the cemetery records of Woodlawn Cemetery in South Berwick online. I think I accessed them once but can't remember whether it was a Genweb site or a private one. Does anyone know? Debbie S
Hello, I was at the Franco-American Genealogical Society in Biddeford this weekend and I looked for the information you were looking for. I found Nellie Day Allen born 1860 died 1929 and Fred E. Allen born 1860 died 1921. They are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Biddeford, ME. There were also George A. Bradbury, Mary J. Day Bradbury, Sophie E. Bradbury, W. M. F. Bradbury. Source: Necrology of Woodlawn Cemetery, Biddeford, ME 1786-1998, compiled by the Franco-American Genealogical Society of York, Co., Biddeford, ME. I made a copy of the page. I can try scanning it and sending it if you would like. Just e-mail me privately and I will send it. William F. Bradbury born 1798, died 1882 and Sophie E. wife of William F. Bradbury born 1803, died 1881. Same source as above. I also found another Mary J. Day who died 1886 which I copied. She is listed with some other Day's and Plumer's. I don't know if they are related to you or not. I looked in the Biddeford Obituaries for St. Joseph Cemetery 1870 - 1990. I did not find Charles B. Day. I could not find the full death date for Nellie or Fred. You should try calling the town hall and see if you can get their death date or maybe try calling the cemetery and get the burial date. I hope this helps. Sorry to have to tell you that I think you're up another blind alley. The Reuben Day you found was my great uncle and he and all his siblings were born either in Alfred or Lyman, ME. between 1850 and 1872 (a large family of 11 and my grandfather Lewis was next to last.) Walter, Reuben's son, is listed twice. One of the peculiarities of these 1905 censuses was that they listed all family members even though some were living elsewhere ( hence his listing in Wells.) Several of the sisters in this family I've not been able to trace: Asenith, b. 1853; Mary O. b. 1858, Elizabeth, b.1864, and Lydia, b. 1869. My thinking is that they died young, because I never heard my grandfather mention them. Have you come across them by any chance? The parents of this family were Porter Day (1823-1894) and Mary Allen ( 1829-1873) of Alfred. Mary Allen is my brick wall. Good luck. The book begins with MacINTYRE Clan History and where most of the McIntires lived in Scotland. (6 pages) There is legend, romanticism and poetry but no concrete genealogical tie to any one family. The author goes on to talk about the 150 Scottish prisoners on board the Unity which set sail for the colonies Nov. 11, 1650. I quote, "At least three of the MacIntyre Clan, Micum, Phillip and Robert, were among the captives by the redoubtable Cromwell and deported to America on the Unity. A number of authorities have contended that they were brothers or near cousins." Micum was in Saugus in 1653; taxed at Dover, NH Nov. 22, 1659; taxedseven shillings and six pence on Dec. 7, 1663, as "Micum the Scotchman." He received a land grant in Kittery Dec. 1662. He worked at the mills in Salmon Falls. There is a record of an unpaid bill to "Mycome Micatere of York". In York, he lived in Scotland Parish. Land grants or transfers in York in 1668, 1670, 1673 and 1696. Next is a reference to a brawl with his buddies from the New England Historic Genealogical Register, July 1874 issue. A stanza from a poet of the day describes the event: And there was Micum McIntyre With his great foot and hand He kicked and cupped Sam Treathy so He could neither go or stand. There is a copy of Micom's will made Apr. 17, 1700. The will was probated 1705 by Micum's sons, John and Micum, jr. The next section covers John and Susanna Young. John's will mentions a dowry he had given to daughter Susanna Main and gives her 1/2 his household belongings, twenty pounds and a legacy from deceased mother's father. In 1698, prior to her marriage to John, Susanna Young "aged about 20 years, swore a child on Henry Simpson..." Susanna McIntire b. York May 16, 1709; d. Dec. 9, 1797; m. Sept 6 1733, Joseph Main son of Josiah Main. Their children were Mercy, b. Aug 22, 1734; Dorothy b. Jan. 23, 1736; Lucy b. Jan. 23, 1736. (twins?) The section on Micum, John, Susanna is about 13 pages long including a picture of the McIntire Garrison House exterior, an interior shot and a picture of the First Clan Reunion, 1917 with maybe 150 people in it. I have a book on the McIntire family in York County. It is the revised edition of Descendants of Micum McIntire by Robert Harry McIntire, published first in 1940 and then in 1983. Have you seen it? Sharon
