I've "rescued" an old photograph of Vera MILIKEN of Old Orchard, Maine which was taken at the Elite Studio in Biddeford, ME. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Vera looking to be about 9 years old at the time. I'm thinking that the correct spelling of the name might be MILLIKEN but I'm not sure. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

My great-great grandfather was William Barker born about 1800 in Maine who moved to Cobb Co GA (nw of Atlanta) by the 1830's, married a Georgia native- Nancy Dobbs (b 1815 d 1881) by 1841. Their children were: Louisa Barker 1841- 1879 Daniel W Barker 1843-1909 Andrew J Barker 1845-1917 Miranda Barker 1847-1874 William D Barker 1861-1934 Daniel and Andrew Barker served in the Confederate Army, William (60+ yrs old) did not as far as I can tell from the records. William Barker was in the 1860 census, by 1870 he was gone but his family remained in Cobb Co. Nancy Dobbs Barker and all of her children except William D. remained in GA their entire lives. I am trying to find where in Maine William Barker came from and which Barker family. He was a millwright in Cobb Co GA according to the 1860 census. Does anyone have Maine ancestors who moved to Georgia during the 1820-1850 time range? I thought perhaps some brother or brother in-law might have moved with William Barker but I have not been able to find anything so far. There was a gold rush in NW Georgia (1820's or 1830's) which might have drawn some men from Maine all the way to Georgia. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this seems to be a brick wall, Thanks, Larry Wise
The following appeared in the December 25, 2003 issue of Daytona Beach News Journal (Daytona Beach, FL). Perhaps it will be of interest to someone. Daytona Beach News Journal December 25, 2003 TUTTLE, JAMES RICHARD - December 23, 2003, at the age of 63, James Richard Tuttle lost his long battle with throat cancer and died peacefully while at home in the care of Hospice and his companion, Dr. Candace Drennen, PhD. "Jimmy," as he was affectionately known by his closest friends, had been a resident of Volusia County for more than 40 years, having moved here as a young man from his native state of Maine. He successfully owned and operated several local businesses which all involved tourism and leisure activities in Volusia County. These included beach concession rentals of jet skis, ATVs and parasail ocean rides. As quoted from one of his closest friends, Jim's personality was much like a "burnt marshmallow" - thick, crusty hard shell over a soft and sweet interior. Over the period of his life, Jim was known to help many friends who were in financial or emotional distress, never making any pretense of such help. He was an avid sports plane pilot and instructor o! f student pilots, housing his airplanes pricinapally at the Flagler County Airport. Tuttle was a true outdoors man. God Speed Jimmy. A memorial service celebrating the life of James Richards "Jimmy" Tuttle will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, in the chapel of the funeral home. Arrangements entrusted to New Life Cremation and Funeral Chapel, 333 S. Yonge St., Ormond Beach, FL. 386.676.1333.

I am looking for any information regarding my gg-grandparents: Sabrina Hurlbutt, born in 1831 and Franklin Richardson, born in 1820. They married on Oct. 1, 1850. They had two daughters: Emma Sabrina (Aug. 1855) and Ella Esther (1953). A book entitled "The Libby Family 1602-1881" refers to "Franklin and Sabrina (Hurlbutt) Richardson of Biddeford, Me." Any help would be much appreciated. I'm writing from BC, Canada, and would be happy to cover any expenses incurred. Thanks very much, Elizabeth

There are actually two MOA sites: The UMich site, and the Cornell site, the latter of which focuses primarily on 19th century periodicals but also has some good Civil War materials. The Cornell site can be accessed at: http://moa.cit.cornell.edu/moa/ Steve Sanborn http://mainegenealogist.tripod.com Eugene Hubbard <hubfam@earthlink.net> wrote: Dear List: This is a broadcast message sent as a service to genealogists (see below): Ray Sears of Ray Sears wrote in part: "The Making of America Project at U Mich (8,000 books, 2,000 articles) is a boon to all of us who don't have easy access to New England Libraries." He provided a direct link to "The History of Cape Cod" as http://www.hti.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=moa;idno=aja2089.0001.001;view=toc and an alternative to the MOA main page as http://www.hti.umich.edu/m/moagrp/ I visited the MOA main page and was impressed by both the search engine, the quality of the imaging of books, and the fact that, besides being able to view material on-line (and print it out) one can purchase printed copy, including whole books, for what I consider a nominal fee. I immediately began to browse "History of Lynn, Essex Co., Massachusetts: Including Lynnfield, Saugus, Swampscot, and Nahant" by Alonzo Lewis and James R. Newhall. I found that there are three ways to view page content: in image form, in text form and in PDF format. I found I could only print out material which was in PDF format, probably due to the way I had set up my browser ....no big deal... The search engine for the website is extremely powerful, and likely to provide more references than desired, so it is best used employing Boolean arguments to be accessed with the "Other Searches" button. If you have a website, it might be well to provide a link to MOA. The service UMICH is providing is so great it would serve them well if you forwarded this message to other genealogists. For this purpose you may quote my message in whole or in part.
