Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pM1.2ACIB/737 Message Board Post: The following obit is here with permission of the Challis Messenger, in Challis, Idaho. Kathryn (Cummings) Meyers Kathryn (Kathy) Meyers, 56, died peacefully at home in St. George, Utah on October 5, 2002 in the loving presence of family. May she fly with the angels. Kathy was born October 18, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, the third of five children born to Cliff and Nancy Cummings. In the spring of 1949 when Kathy was four years old, her family moved to Arco, Idaho. She grew up on the Salmon River in North Fork, Idaho and always called this home. Kathy loved to travel and went to Palermo, Sicily (Italy) to visit family with her grandmother Catarina in the summer of 1960 and again with her mother Nancy in 1987. Staying connected to family was always her priority. She married the love of her life, Melvin (Mel) Meyers, of Challis, Idaho, on July 11, 1964 in Challis. Soon after their marriage, Kathy moved with her husband to Olympia, Washington where he was stationed in the U.S. Army. She worked for the State of Washington during their stay. Kathy and Mel returned to Challis in 1966 where they lived for two years before moving to Pocatello, Idaho. Kathy's children, Charles (Chuck) and Darci, were born in Pocatello. The family then returned to Challis again in 1979. Kathy worked for the federal government in a variety of positions before ending her career with the Forest Service. She was always ready for new and challenging work experiences and won numerous awards for her performance. Kathy was very successful, often being the first woman to hold her position and title. She was a role model for many women and paved the way for women to advance in the federal government system. Kathy often traveled with her work and moved with her husband and two children to Sterling, Virginia in 1985 to work in Washington, D.C. Although she enjoyed her successes, Kathy missed home and she and her family moved west again and settled in Ogden, Utah in 1986. Kathy retired in St. George, Utah in 2001 after 35 years of service with the Forest Service. People who knew Kathy loved her. She had a bright smile, a warm touch and a loving heart for everyone she met. She always helped those in need and was an advocate for human rights in her work, as well as in her personal life. She loved unconditionally and touched many, many lives. She taught her children to live with an open heart, to respect others and to believe that anything is possible. She proved that with her own life. Kathy was also a very talented artist in many mediums, from water color to gourd artistry. Kathy is survived by her husband, Mel Meyers; son, Chuck (Michelle) Meyers; grandsons, Jacob and Jordan Meyers, and step grandson, Colton Shelley; daughter, Darci Meyers (Ray) Moore; step daughter, Paula Meyers, and grandchildren, Coby Meyers and Dane Wilhelm; father, Cliff (Mary) Cummings, Sr.; sisters, Shirley (Dan) Walker and Sherrie (Ron) Auen; brothers, Cliff (Linda) Cummings, Jr. and Jon (Nancy) Cummings; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The void left by her death will be felt by many--she will be greatly missed. Preceding her in death was her mother, Nancy Cummings; maternal grandparents, John and Catarina Scaletta; and paternal grandparents, Clarence and Opal Cummings. Friends and family will join in a celebration and remembrance of her life on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 11:a.m. at the Jones & Casey Chapel in Salmon, with burial to follow at the Salmon Cemetery.
