She was born Margaret Ellen Taggart in about 1841 in Peru, Miami County, Indiana, the daughter of Daniel and Susanna (Wilkins) Taggart. On 7-7-1862 she married George Hoover in Miami County, Indiana. In 1918, an obituary for her brother Van Dallas Taggart referred to "Mrs. Margaret Meyers of Saline County, Kansas" as a surviving sister. She would have been approximately 77 years old at the time.
