    3. I was hoping something would match with mine (because I have hit a brick wall), but nothing fits in with mine. . . . although I live 5 miles from Little Washington. My dad was George Meyers; his mother was Susanna Bauer (or Spang) Meyers; his father was August Meyers. I can't even find a death certificate for August - born approx 1876, nor can I find out where he is buried. I did find out that my Grandmother Susanna (whom I'm named after), is buried in Beaver, PA cemetery. I was able to get a death certificate on her, but something is fishy. It has her father's name as William Bauer, born in Germany, but her mother's name unknown, also born in Germany. In the 1920 Census my Grandmother lists her birthplace as Prussia, Germany. That's as much as I can find out. Also, my dad had an older brother, August who would have been born around 1903. He was in the Merchant Marines in the 50's, and all of a sudden was missing. We have no idea how he died, when he died, or where he died and is buried. I wrote to the Merchant Marines, and they won't release any information. All of his brothers and sisters are dead, he was never married, so his nieces and nephews are his next of kin, and they won't release it without a court order. I am obsessed with cracking this one! Oh well, sorry none of your Meyers' are part of mine. If you come across anything that fits into mine, I would truly appreciate you e-mailing me. Thanks, and have a great day, Sue -----Original Message----- From: jeweler@eaze.net [mailto:jeweler@eaze.net] Sent: Monday, July 09, 2001 6:12 PM To: MEYERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Meyers] Lydia Meyers, PA. My grandfather is James Cornelius (went by an alias last name). born Jan. 2, 1907 in Little Washington or Butler, PA (possibly). His mother was Lydia (maiden name unknown) who married a Meyers, so My grandmother knew her as Lydia Meyers. She can not remember Mr. Meyers first name. He had brothers and sisters (some are half): Earl, Pearl, Merle, Harvey, Gladys, and Walter. Walter took on the last name of his mother's second husband...Meyers is the name. Jack served in the service in Panama in around 1925. He had married twice, maybe. Jack's mother's first name was Lydia. Pearl married a man named Keepman. I have a few pictures of Jack, Harvey, Pearl, etc. I have pictures of Mr. Meyers also, and will send a computer picture if any of this info matches your research. In the large picture of him that I have, he has white hair combed straight back, dark eyebrows, and is probably in his sities. I am very sorry that I don't have more to go on, but my grandfather changed his name, possibly because of a "bench warrant" for beating his stepfather (again, sorry). 1. [Meyers] Meyers' Genealogies
    2. Hi all, I am trying to compile a list of the various genealogies on the Meyer Name and all variations. Both published and unpublished will go into the list- here, "by unpublished" - I mean books under construction etc for which the author has an e-mail address and would do look up. If you have a book in your possession on the name, please send me the particulars- full title, author, date, #pages, whether indexed, isbn # if it exists and a brief sentence or two about the contents. I will publish then on this list the full list of books that are given to me plus my own list of them. Many thanks in advance Don Moyer cdonmoyer@aol.com

    1. [Meyers] Meyers -- traveling musicians -- 7 brothers in Germany
    2. I'm trying to find information on 7 brothers who traveled as a musical group in Germany. One of them sent his violin and 2 bows to brother Leo Meyers, in Detroit, Michigan, promising to join him in America after the war. Unfortunately, the 7 brothers were all supposed to have been killed in WWI. Unknown is if there were sisters, but assume there were. Looking for any information about my Great-grandfather's history. What little is known is that he came from a non-Jewish, musically inclined family from the Berlin, Germany area. Please contact me at Desertmorn@aol.com, Thanks.

    2. Russell Meyers
    3. This is the Dutch adaptation of the German "Meyer". "Von" literally means "honorable" and "Meyer" is "Mayor" in modern American. It's a state-endowed title, which became the family name. ----Original Message Follows---- From: THoll53559@cs.com Reply-To: MEYERS-L@rootsweb.com To: MEYERS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Meyers] the origin and meaning Date: Sun, 10 Jun 2001 16:52:56 EDT Rusty, What is the meaning if the name MEYER is preceded by Von Wendell Holliday tholl53559@cs.com ==== MEYERS Mailing List ==== Visit the threaded archives for this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/MEYERS-L/ ============================== Visit Ancestry's Library - The best collection of family history learning and how-to articles on the Internet. http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    2. Russell Meyers
    3. Yes, Sir! The origin of Meyer(s) is of German ethnicity. The name is actually the title of what we refer to as "Mayor" in modern American. The name does mean leader of a city, town, village or burg. It's a very common name in Germany, as it is an old name (dating to just after the middle ages) and, of course, each town, etc., had it's own "Meyer" (along with descendants of the same name). Need to know anything else about the name? Rusty Meyers _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    2. Sandi Williams
    3. Am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Beeman Meyers Smith, b. 1860-1865 possibly GA. As children were often given a middle name that was the mothers maiden name, I am possibly looking at a Meyers mother & then of course Smith for father. Beeman married Alma Virginia Dryden about 1891, possibly in Memphis, Shelby Co., TN. By 1905, Beeman left his wife as well as five living children. A grandaughter says he went to Baton Rouge, LA. Have been unable to find any further information on him. Death certificate of one of his daughters finally gave me his middle name. Hope that someone has a connection or knowledge of this family. Thank you, Sandi Williams sandi@madnet.net
