Dear June, Our Meyers is an unending mystery. John Casper Meyers lived in N.J., his first wife passed away and at 50 he married a younger lady and moved to Brooklyn about 1875. Two of his children were born in the Pittssburg area so they lived there for awhile and then moved back to Brooklyn. He died and she was still young with a houseful of children- so all the real estate holdings that he had she sold off piece by piece to keeep roof over head. He was an engineer and a lay Methodist minister. He was white, and that is all we know about him. We think he may have been born in the U.S., that would be 1825ish - but we don't really know that for sure. So- that is my Meyers- I don't know if that helps you any. Joyce Bowen Valrico, FL

I am looking for information on Lucy Ann Houston. When she married in 1855 in Johnson County, Texas her guardian was Samuel Meyers. In the History of Johnson County Texas the Meyers family was a founding family. They were in Mississippi on the 1850 census but in Johnson County in 1855 and on the 1860 census. Lucy was born in Arkansas in 1840 but was with the Meyers in 1855.

Hi, My name is Laura Custodio and I am also a fair skinned African American woman. My family originated in Barnesville Ohio. My great-great grandfathers name is Phillip Wilkes Meyers, he migrated from Maryland to Barnesville, Ohio in the 1800's, he was a free black man. He had thirteen children, one of which is my great grandmother Minerva Meyers. She married a man by the name of William Johnston. And they also had thirteen children. I have the list of the other childrens names and some history from a book I was able to obtain last year at a family reunion in Barnesville. Please e-mail me back if you are interested in obtaining more info.
