On December 3,1999 a fire in a Worcester MA cold storage warehouse trapped and killed 6 fire fighters. We will never forget the eerie scene of fire fighters digging by hand through the rubble day after day and night after night until the remains of all six fire fighters were recovered and properly laid to rest. > >Once again our eyes are red from watching our fellow public safety family search for our extended family and the citizens who were so cruelly taken from us at the New York City World Trade Center. During the long vigil for the Worcester fire someone provided us with a visible showing of our concern and respect for those that have been taken from us during that incident. Because it was the Christmas season the idea of adding a single red light bulb blazing in a window to symbolize the grief and respect for our fallen heroes was proposed. Many of you will remember seeing the red candles in homes through out the country as the idea took hold. > >It has been proposed that we, as a nation, rekindle those candles of sympathy. Please consider going to your attic or garage where you keep your holiday bulbs and place a candle in the window to remember those lost in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Use a red light to memorialize the fire fighters, EMTs, and paramedics, a blue light to memorialize the police officers, and finally, a white light to remember the innocent civilians who were killed by these cowardly acts. > >These lights would stay lit 24 hours a day, 7 days week until the last person has been recovered. Of course it would be acceptable to leave a candle lit longer than that time if, perhaps, a permanent reminder was felt necessary by the family living behind the lights. > >I would appreciate your consideration of this memorial symbol as we here on Cape Cod and in Massachusetts are doing to show the world our resolve as a public safety community and our nation. > >Thank you so much. >Joe McNeil, Captain >Harwich, MA Fire Department (retired) > >Past President, >APCO International > >PS: If you are inclined to, would you please forward this message to your email list in the hopes of lighting up the world with this gesture. > >Thank you. > > > >[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > >------------------------ Yahoo! We were all very young and your great grandfather, Marcus H. Logsdon, would wait on us to leave church and we would go to the E&L cafe and have hamburgers afterward. Your great grandfather worked for the railroad until he pasted away. You should also ask her about her grandmother Helen & Uncle Joe. Sorry to be bothering you again but reading your E-mail made me think of so many things.

The story I have is told from the wife of his son. John H. (Meyers) was born 1882 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He had an older sister but cant remember her name now. at about age 14 he came west on an emigrant or orphan train to Oregon/Washington. He was taken in by a family named Rhodes who owned a major department store there. His sister ended up in California. Although apearantly never adopted he took the name Rhodes as his own. He married a Bertha Campbell and his son was born John Ross Rhodes of 1918. He died 1969 in Washington. I have no information about his birth parents other than some possibilities of the 1880 census for which he wasnt yet born. The sur name was given as Meyers, but the spelling may be wrong.

Robert Louis Meyers is my uncle; his sisters are marie, pauline, and his brothers name is "june" or james meyers. We are all from greensboro, n.c. you were born in greensboro. As a little girl, you was raised in apache apartments off cottage grove. You had a sister or brother, and your cousin's name was "nooney." Your mothers' name is connie, and your grandmother's name is mrs bert. I returned to greensboro in 1994, after a career in the air force. I then worked as a probation officer in high point, n.c. I now live in fayetteville, n.c. My sister jewel told me about a month ago that she had spoken to you on the phone or in person, in new jersey. your aunt pauline is the only person alive of your father's family (sisters or brothers). she lives in greenboro. she's the one who has the pictures of him and of you kids. she has a good memory... tell your mother and grandmother, if they are alive that I said hello. many of my ! friends in greenboro who grew up in apache apartments remember you, nooney, ms bert, and you mother. ask your mother if she remember josephine robinson. Also you had a cousin we called "goose or preacher." Tell your mother that there is no ill-feeling about what happened. that's about 35 years ago. I have tried to locate tony, faye and vanessa, your sisters and brother. just think, we found each other; let's keep on looking. I believe they live in virginia.
Noticed you mentioned Wabaunsee County and Meyers! I have an Anna Meyers who married Henry Hinck in Germany - they came to Kansas and are shown on the 1900 Wabaunsee County census with Anna's brother Herman Meyers also listed with them. Herman had been in this country for 19 years and Henry and Anna for 18 years. Henry and Anna's first child was born in Germany the same year they came to the USA. From tombstone info in Wabaunsee County, we suspect there was another Meyers brother - Martin. Does this ring any bells??? Hope to hear from you. Beverly Casper, WY
Belatedly in my life I am searching for information about my father's forbears and siblings, if any. From a small scrap of paper I have with pencilled notes I believe he was born John Cleveland Meyers in Scott County in Mar. 1886. The semi-literate author of the note wrote "there was no vatal stadistics kept in said county at that period his mother died when he was to month old and father died when eleven years old does not know of any church or family Reckerd of Birth Justis Roper" (typed as written) Justice Roper identified the location as "Catt County, VA" several times. I believe he meant Scott County because he also makes reference to Gate City in another part of the note in connection with "Magie Davis (Harris?). He also gives the names of Sanuel Meyers, John Frederick Meyers and Mary Elizabeth Meyers, with no clue as to who they were. My father died in Feb 1935 when I was 10, leaving me an orphan. I'm hoping to find whatever information exists about a family named Meyers (or Meyer, Myer(s), Mayer(s) or Meier(s) in Scott Co. in the 1800's. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks! John Meyers
