My Meyer/Meier family came from Eldena, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. I do not find a Hans Jacob Meyer in my tree but do find a Johann Jochim Meyer but he is not born in 1820. Have you taken into consideration that your Hans Jacob Meyer name has been Americanized. Our familys name first began as Meyer in Germany. Around 1905 my great grandfather changed the spelling to Meier. Why? We do not know. His brother kept the spelling of Meyer. They lived in Clayton County, Iowa in the 1870's thru 1890's, moved to Winneshik County, Iowa in 1900's and then to Brule County, South Dakota in 1905. Do you see any connection?
