She attended Whittemore Lutheran Parochial School. On November 23, 1931 Hilda was united in marriage to Alfred Bruhn at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Whittemore, Iowa. To this union four children were born. Hilda and Alfred farmed near Depew from 1931 until 1974 when they retired and moved into Emmetsburg. Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was an active member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairville. Hilda enjoyed her flower garden, crocheting, playing cards and working puzzles. She always looked forward to and appreciated visits from her family and friends. Hilda died Monday, May 23, 2005 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Matthew Bruhn in 1984; a son-in-law, Richard Preston; her only son, David Bruhn in 2004; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Preston. She is survived by her children, Arlene Preston of Mesa, AZ, Phyllis (Bill) Raska of Spencer, IA, Jolene (Steve) Reichelt of Sioux Falls, SD and daughter-in-law, Mary Bruhn of Bradford, OH; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
