"BILLY" MEYER JR. of Santa Fe died Thursday of acute leukemia. A healthy, robust man, he had no knowledge of his leukemia until a few days before his death. He spent the last weekend of his life with his wife, Debra, celebrating their anniversary in the mountains of Colorado and enjoying one of his favorite sports, fishing, before he suffered the sudden onset of the fatal disease. His life centered around the family home on Delgado Street. His family can trace its roots in Santa Fe back to the late 1800s. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in 1974 and attended the University of New Mexico, where he played on the football team, and Adams State College, where he was on the wrestling team. He married Debra on Sept. 18, 1981, in the family home. He was the manager of the Meyer family properties. He especially loved fly-fishing. He was a member of the St. Francis Cathedral parish. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary J. Meyer. He is survived by his wife, Debra of Santa Fe; son Billy, a student at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff; son Guy, a student at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.; father, William and his companion Betty Wilde of Sun City West, Ariz.; sister, Lynn Meyer-Davis and her husband Lawton of Albuquerque; sister Debbie Doe and her husband Brian, of La Junta, Colo.; sister, Michelle Meyer of Santa Fe; sister, Amy Pitzer and her husband Tom of Delta Junction, Alaska, and many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to St Michael's Wrestling Program, 100 Siringo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505 or Villa Terese Clinic, 219 Cathedral Place, Santa Fe, NM 87501. A rosary will be recited on at 5:30 p.m. today at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Cathedral. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.
