I am searching for any Meyer families from the Eldena, Schwerin, Mecklenburg area. My great great grandfater, Johan Heinrich Christian "Carl" Meyer was born December 31, 1838 in Eldena. He immigrated to the USA in May 1872 and went to Chicago. He was married to Elisabeth Wille at the First Zion Lutheran Church in Chicago in Sept of 1872. they then moved to Clayton Center, Clayton County, Iowa. He went by the names of Carl Meyer, J. C. Meyer, Charles Meyer, and around 1905 he changed the spelling of the last name to Meier. So, he then went by the names of Carl Meier, Karl Meier, J. C. Meier. At this time he purchased land North of Kimball, Brule County, South Dakota and lived there until his death in 1921. Carl's mother's maiden name was KAETELHOEN from Eldena and her mother's maiden name was LEIST or LEISTEN from Gross Schmoellen, Parish Doemitz, Germany. Carl's father's mother's maiden name was VOLSCHEN. Carl's siblings were Johann Heinrich Frederich "Martin" Meyer b. 1840 who lived in Hamburg; Johann Frederich "Fred" Andreas Meyer b. 1825 who immigrated to Clayton Center, Clayton County, Iowa; Maria Catharina Elisabeth Johanna " Leisette" Meyer b. 1833 who we think also immigrated to Clayton Center, Clayton County, Iowa. I would like to hear from anyone who is connected to the above surnames. Thank you. Marlene Sioux Falls, SD
