He was born on March 31, 1824 in Neundorf, Hessen Schaumburg, Germany. He immigrated to the US in 1845. He married Carolina Wilhelmina Wiese on December 28, 1848. He had 13 children, Noah J, 6 more males, and 6 more females. He died on October 5, 1896 in Farmington, MO and was buried in the Lutheran Cemetery.
