I have not seen any evidence to suggest that. Since the passenger lists I saw don't have it, I would guess probably not. The variation in the spelling between Moyer and Meyer does seem to be very common. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I may have more info on the Meyer/Moyer's mentioned in your query. I have boxes of notes and papers that have been either copied or printed from records at the Allen Co. Library. The names sound so familiar....don't they all?? but I vaguely remember reading someting about them, and I seem to remember them about the same time period as Johann..I will go thru my mountain of paperwork and post whatever I find....probably the next rainy day we have...sunny days I go golfing. My wife descends from Johann Diel BOHN. While researching his roots in Germany, a German researcher recommended finding out as much as I could about others on the same ship. So far I have not been able to make connections with others on the ship. I now have proof that Johann Diel BOHN came from the BOHN family of Nussbaum, Germany. Nussbaum is a small village southeast of Maintz. I have not proven his parents, but thru a process of elimination have narrowed down the choices to probable parents. I have not found the Meyer / Moyer connection. Dan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Anna Maria Wuchter..had 7 children..a weaver by trade. In his will it mentions the possibility of two brothers...Solomon and Charles/Carl Friederich. In both the 1810 & 1820 PA Census for Lehigh Co., I find listed a Charles, Solomon, and Johann...however those names are so common, and families used them again and again so that may not mean anything. In all my research I've never found Johann's father. Maybe it's your Johannes, or possibly the other Johan listed in your message. I've entertained the idea that perhaps Johann's parents/father were deceased before he came to the US, and that possibly he was raised by another family...coming into the US maybe it was assumed he belonged to that family, and his actual father's name was never listed anywhere on the records..passenger lists or anything. Anyway, the names Johannes, Johan, and Friederich Meyer gave me a little hope that perhaps they are rel! ated in some way to the Johan I'm researching. I go to the Fort Wayne IN library often to do geneaology. The next time I go I will see if I can find anything on your Johannes and Friederich. Anything I find I will send you right away. Who knows...maybe together we can break down some of these brick walls. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: melopoly18 Surnames: Andrew Meyer Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meyer/923.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm a volunteer with the Canton Preservation Society. I realize it's been years since your inquiry, but I found a small article on Andrew Meyer today that I found interesting. It says: During the War of 1812, Baltimore resident Andrew Meyer bought and fitted out two ships at his own expense for the deffence of his country. As compensation for the loss of one of these ships, the United States government awarded him a large tract of land around Wells Lake (later Meyer's Lake). Meyer came to Canton about 1814 and, in several additional transactions with Bezaleel Wells, expanded his property to 3000 acres of prime farm land. On a knoll overlooking the lake, Meyer built his mansion with regional brick and a variety of European woods brought form Steubenville. A simple vernacular structure, its facade was enhanced by a recessed porch on the second floor under an open gable. The ornamentation of the peak and the porch are later modifications. the interior was probably remodeled about the turn of the century, but the house remained substantially unaltered from its original form. It was destroyed by fire in 1975 and today only the brick walls remain standing! . The Meyer mansion became the scene of Canton's first great social affairs, and the Meyers soon involved themselves in various activities such as the breeding of race horses. The short article includes a photo of the mansion before it was destroyed and an illumination print of the property circa 1890.
