They were my maternal grandparents, though my mother was raised by a brother of Johanna's. I have a marriage record in St. Louis 27 Oct 1905 but by 1910 she was living in IL with another brother along with my mother and younger sibling born in 1909. He is listed as Heinrich Meier on mother's Christening certificate at St. John's Evangelical church in St. Louis in 1906. Johanna had two more children (Anna and Irvin or Irwin) who used the name Meyer but she is listed as "widow" on the 1920 census where she is a housekeeper (who knows who provided the info). The legend is she carried her son (s) over ice and snow to get them away from consription (Franco Prussian War). Lewis died in the early part of the 20th century in his forties. The line stops there. Anyone else have such a legend? Do not know if she was in Germany, France or Prussia. I suppose she ended her days in Kentucky or Ohio, where Lewis was. Ironton? Thanks. William and Mary Meyer are Wilbert's parents. J. William and wife Mary were both age 41 in 1910 census. He was age 25 when he married. Wilbert and siblings were born in Wisconsin, as was his father. Siblings were: Irene L., Agnes B., Renal F., Lawrence A. and Vernon. 1930 census they lived next to Adolph Meyer and Clara and children. J. William Meyer's wife Mary was born in Germany, as were both of their parents. J. William Meyer was a farmer and they lived in Elk Mound, Dunn Co., Wisconsin. I hope this helps you. William age 41 born Wis. and parents Germany Wife, Mary age 41 born Germany children: Irene L. age 14 Agnes B. age 12 Renal F. age 8 Lawrence A. age 7 Wilbert W. age 1 9/12 1930 census added Vernon age 19 to the family of J. W. Meyer and Mary. 1930 census stated that J. William married at age 25. He was always a farmer. 1930 census shows Adolph age 47 and wife Clara and children living next to J. William and family. Probably brothers.
