    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: sunnybeaches4me Surnames: Meyer, Meisemann Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meyer/3311.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Saw your post - do you know the names of your grandmother's siblings? I found a Dora Meyer in the 1910 census, living in St. Louis Ward 9, with her mother, also named Dora, age 39, and two brothers: Louis, 2 and Walter, 2 months. I can't tell if the mother is widowed - actually looks as though it is an "M", however, she is also listed as head of household. This same mother has 7 living children, out of 10 born, but I wonder where the others are? The census says this mother was born in Germany, and immigrated in 1888. In the 1920 census, St. Louis Ward 6, there is a Dora Meyer, age 14, listed as the 'adopted daughter'. There are several older adults living at this residence, not sure which one is the adoptive parent; there doesn't appear to be any married couples. The above mentioned brothers are not listed, either. Could this possibly be who you are looking for? Do you know anything more about your great grandparents? Such as when they were born? Did they live in any other s! tate before Missouri? If you can provide any more details - I will try my best to help! Author: cmeyers2005 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meyer/3309.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Marlene, Thanks for the reply. I'm so confused when it comes to this spelling. My great grandfather is Edward Meyer. His parents were John and Barbara Meyer. Barbara's maiden name was Meier. It shows that John Meyer was married also to a Augusta Maria Krakau, born in Switzerland. I've hit a stumbling block. Family stories say that Meyer is from Swiss Mennonite descent. My grandfather is Isaac Meyer, my father Harold Meyer. The "s" was added to Meyer in 1927/29 to soften the hardness of the name. I must admit that it's overwhelming doing this search! Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. Carolyn Meyers Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: marsmemories Surnames: Meyer, Meier, Wille, Jagow Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.meyer/3309.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I took an interest in your query as you list Meyer and Meier. My Meyer/Meier family came from Eldena, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. I do not find a Hans Jacob Meyer in my tree but do find a Johann Jochim Meyer but he is not born in 1820. Have you taken into consideration that your Hans Jacob Meyer name has been Americanized. Our familys name first began as Meyer in Germany. Around 1905 my great grandfather changed the spelling to Meier. Why? We do not know. His brother kept the spelling of Meyer. They lived in Clayton County, Iowa in the 1870's thru 1890's, moved to Winneshik County, Iowa in 1900's and then to Brule County, South Dakota in 1905. Do you see any connection?
