This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oh0.2ACEB/1669 Message Board Post: I am searching for information concerning the following persons: 1. Jan Meyer, of England, married Timmosijn Breyck, of England, in Leyden, Holland at the Dutch Reformed Church on March 21, 1618. Witnesses to the marriage were the groom's friend, Thomas Smeth, and the bride's mother, Susanna Breyck, and the bride's sister, Marytgen Duijck. Jan Meyer was a baize worker or worked with coarse woolen materials. I was told by the Leyden City Clerk that the names above could really have been Mayo, Brike, and Smith, since the bride and groom were from England. I think it is a strong possibility that this is the marriage record of my immigrant ancestors, Rev. John Mayo and Tamsen Brike. They were Puritans and more than likely fled England because of religious persecution. Perhaps, Tamsen Brike's sister and mother stayed behind in Holland, since it appears that her sister, Mary, married a man of Dutch descent. If these are indeed my ancestors, then they could have been in Holland from ca. 1615 to ca. 1637...some time in that time frame. They went back to England for a short time, then went to America in the Spring of 1638. John Mayo and Tamsen Brike had 5 children between 1618 and 1637. Their names were Samuel, Hannah, John, Nathaniel, and Elizabeth, and they could have been born in Holland. My ancestor, Rev. John Mayo, was great friends of the Puritans who fled England and went to Leyden, Holland. He also was a minister after he came to America, if not before. I am primarily searching for any information concerning the people named in the marriage record above. Any help would be very much appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected] . The last obit we have for a sibling lists three members who I've had trouble getting info on. One being Gertrude. Shes listed as being in Peoria, Pekin & Leroy IL & all in the early 1920's. She was listed as marrying a Wm Fleming in the latest one. I've searched everywhere & put multiple messages on the boards & found nothing. Her parents were Leopold & as far as we can figure a lady named Delia. Most of the family stayed in NY or came back here. She is one of the ones who did not. Could you help me? She would be born somewhere between 1828 & 1847 I believe.
