I was told things by some guy in Martin county who had the know about my family. I have forgotten his name. That was 20- 30 years ago. As I have been doing research he was right in the identification of my family. He also told me many tpeople who were connected in a branch or line. Some things are fuzzy. And incidents and peeoples names have remained with me. Once a Patterson said he had to keep an eye on me since we were connected. Sometimes I think I just dreamed it.! But Patterson is a name I think the man said. This man had said something about silk worms and mulberry trees. I don't remeber what else. So I have been checking into the silk industry. {Perhaps England. But I was thinking of Germany? Anything to do with that? also anyone in your line that was with Sugar bakers . You can email me at email address if you like. The surnames listed are SOME he had mentioned. They may not necesarrily be the ones in your case. He had mentioned a book in german. and some other book where he had gotten all those names.. Just fishing here for some help to my mystery. thanks

Here it was possible to rise from weaver to entrepreneur and take advantage of the great opportunity for upward mobility. Many fortunes were made in Paterson by former Macclesfield weavers, names like Lambert, Strange, Dougherty, Wadsworth, Grimshaw, Crewe and Henshall all rose from the loom to become prominent. Even today a visit to Lambert Castle overlooking the City attests to their great wealth. By 1900, there were 3000 people living in Paterson, The Paterson Call published regularly the Births, Marriages and Deaths from the Macclesfield Courier. In his travels about the City and business dealings through the years, James Mayers must have met many old friends from his youth in England. I wonder if they fully acknowledged the fact that all followed in his footsteps and those of John Ryle, the first Englishman, in the silk industry, to arrive in Paterson, the Industrial Cradle of America.
