She was a sister to my great-great-grandmother, Nancy Snider/Snyder, b 1837 Tippecanoe County. Sarah married Henry Meyer (Myer, Myers, Meyers, etc.) 1849 Tippecanoe County. They were in Black Hawk County, Iowa approximately 1856-1866 and then moved to the McFall, Missouri area. This is right on the border between Gentry County and Daviess County. Apparently McFall proper is in Gentry County, where most of the Meyers seem to be buried (McFall Cemetery, available on the MOGenWeb in transcription), but most of the family lived south of McFall in Daviess County. Henry and Sarah had 11 children: John Henry, b 1850 Indiana Martin Luther (twin), b&d 1853 Indiana Lorinday (twin), b 1853 Indiana, d 1854 Indiana George W., b 1855 Indiana Nancy M., b 1857 Iowa Sarah E., b 1860 Iowa Ezza Dora, b 1862 Iowa Arinda, b 1865 Iowa Emma, b 1868 Missouri Austin, b 1870 Missouri William Edgar, b 1874 Missouri John Henry married Mary ("Molly") Ferguson and had six children; after Molly's death, he married widow Ida Toller. Nancy M. married James Hibbs. Sarah E. married William Hartley. Austin married Nellie Gray. William Edgar married Ella Artelia Fanning. Most of this information comes from a county history that I was recently sent scans from. The informant, a descendant of William Edgar, died in 1988 according to the McFall Cemetery inscriptions online. I am just getting started on this collateral line, and would like to hear from anyone who has more information available. Sarah Snider/Snyder's parents were John Snider/Snyder and Rachel Ridgway (although the history gives the name Rachel Jackson, which is incorrect). Rachel Ridgway appears in a Ridgway book with about four generations of ancestors. Her husband, children, and some grandchildren are mentioned in the book. If you have any connection to Sarah Snider/Snyder, please contact me. Thanks, Alma

Is there anyone out there who could help me with a WA census record. I have the record and page number from ancestry but I can't blow it up enough to read the place in Prussia where my Meyer's were born it looks like Saregy, another family member thought it looked like Swoges? Any way if someone wouldn't mind checking that out for me one day when they can go look at the microfilm I sure would be very grateful. His information is Hay, Whitman Co., WA 1920 census p102 Meye, Oren R. 49 Thanks so much, Melissa

I have been unable to uncover anything as it relates to my g-ggrandmother, Meyer, surname. I was encourages when viewing your message seeing your Meyer - Essel connection. I have been working on my family tree for four years and it has grown to 2,335 names, needing now only the Meyer side of the family for completion. My great grandparents Joseph C. and Mary Meyer Essel had six children that I know of, their names: Victoria, Virginia, Desire, Virgil Joseph, August Joseph and Joseph Charles. The Essel's hailed from Alsace Lorraine, France I was told though I have no written proof to back this up. I have no spicific date to when my g-grandparents were born though predicated upon my grandfathers date of birth I would assume the early 1850's. Most of the children of Joseph C. & Mary Meyer Essel resided in Utica, NY though one or more went West. If per chance any ! of this information ties into your research I would be very pleased if you would contact me. My email address is [email protected] If you do write me I would appreciate putting the name "Meyer or Essel" in the subject which will ensure I open it/not delete it.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oh0.2ACEB/1771.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Well, there's a number of ways and not all the ways work for all the ports. There are the passenger transcription databases that you can find through Cyndi's List and there are books at the library (in the genealogy section) that have lists for ships for the different ports. Is there any place among your family that you can get a clue as to what port? I got lucky with my hubby's grandmother in that one of her daughter's asked to see Nana's passport and told me not only that she entered the US through Boston but the date. That makes the search a bit more manageable. I would say my first place to look would be Cyndi's List - passenger lists and then work your way through the various ports just using logic (what port would be most convenient to where she first lived). If you don't find anything that rout, then take your list of ports to the library. Oh, do you have citizenship papers on your aunt? That might have info....again, this is so general but it gives you a bit ! of a start. Hope you're prepared for a bit of tedious legwork. But then, that's why we do this, right?

Jim, Do you have Alexander's parents and their siblings? I'm interested because my father's name was Alexander Meyer. I wonder if we could be connected in the early 1800's. Let me know, please....... Audrea Meyer Sullivan [email protected]

My husband has two immigrant grandparents and one just happened to come through Ellis but the other entered the country through Boston. You say that your aunt started in Idaho then went to Illinois before moving on to BC (Victoria) - my first thought might be that she entered somewhere along the west coast (San Fran, Portland, Seattle). Then I would check other ports. There are lots of entries into the US (Galveston, Boston, New Orleans, Philadelphia, etc.....). I know this doesn't make your search any easier, but it does give you lots of places to look.
