I would like to find out what the spelling was and why it was changed and then how to go about the tracing back. Seems it was Maier from Germany Went to Ottawa and Rock Island, IL. Heard name was Maier to Mier when son went to school. Then it was spelled Meier, Myers and .......... Meyer in the City directories. I have Joseph Valentine Maier b. 19 Dec 1854 Germany Came to America 1860-61 Naturalization paper reads Myer Married Mary-Marie Helena Scheuermann-Sherman. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding them before this time frame? I have been looking at passenger lists and message boards. Thanks Judy

I have found four sets of Meyer in the village. I have little information to go on to see if they were connected. One can only think no until something turns up. But if someone ommits where the family is from it only makes sense to ask. And if she wanted I'd be willing to help. Such as suggesting checking church records, marriage records and burial records, and other friends who seem like they may have come from the same place. Many times they did not come alone. It seems that mine married a widow Malone from iowa and that is why he was there in San antonio.I have a notebook of many Other Meyer families of Texas. I can review better the possibilites if I know where the person I am checking came from. It also gives me other clues. I could have provided more info. If she thought there was a reason. since not I didn't put it out there. If you take no chances you get nothing. I found some of my family in germany. I did my homework and then took some chances. payed off. I thank you for your time and imput.
