The obituary of my great great grandfather, Claus Meyer, states that he had two brothers remaining in Clinton. I believe I have found Claus' family in Germany and his 4 brothers are: Peter Heinrich Meier b 1848, Hinrich Christopher Meier b 1850, Hans Meyer b 1853 and Johann Meier b 1857. I believe that the brothers likely changed their names to Meyer as Claus did. I believe that I've found my one brother; Peter on the 1910 census living in Center Township and it is likely that he is the same Peter that died 3/26/1932 buried in Center Grove Cemetary. I was wondering if your John could possibly be my Johann?

Meyer of Haddam, celebrated his 100th birthday in April with family and friends. He died in his sleep at Harbor Hill Health Care in Middletown on Tuesday, (November 18, 2003). He was born April 24, 1903 in New York City, the son of Charles and Frieda Bergman Meyer. He moved to Haddam at age 8. As a boy he was present at the opening of the East Haddam Bridge which at that time cost three cents to walk across one way and five cents to ride. He attended the two-room Haddam School House, which in now used as a Senior Center, and the Higganum Union School. In the 1920's he moved back to New York where he attended N.Y.U. and married his wife Dorothy. He started his life long career as a business and manufacturing consultant for Stephanson, Jordan & Harrison and he traveled extensively throughout the United States. These were the early days of aviation when if the plane was relatively empty you could go up to the cockpit and talk with the pilot and even handle the contro! ls. Mr. Meyer related one trip where the pilot landed in a muddy cornfield because he could not find the airport and on another trip he flew to Chicago with Jimmy Durante. Bill Meyer moved back to Haddam in 1956 where he bought and remodeled an old house built in the early 1700"s that his wife had long admired. Bill Meyer was a vociferous reader and was invited to attend the laying of the cornerstone of the addition to the Haddam Library. He kept fit by walking a hilly two miles each way twice a week to the library until he was 90 years old. His wife Dorothy died in 1995. He is survived by one brother, Robert Meyer of Atlanta, Michigan; three children, William C. Meyer of Stonington, Kevin Meyer of Lake Shawnee, NJ, Dr. Patricia Meyer of New Haven; six Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister; Lillian Cates. Services will be private. Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic has assisted the family with arrangements. William and Elizabeth Powell were about 33 yrs old or so in 1880. Their children were: Charles, born around 1869, Edward around 1871, William around 1874, Bertha around 1878, and Seth around 1879 or 1880. William was a coal miner and lived in Caseyville, at least in 1880. Seth Powell married Bertha Bailey in 1902. Bertha Powell married Frank Delorme in 1899. They had a daughter named Pearl in 1901. Pearl (only child) married Frank Darley around 1923 or so and they had a daughter named Dorma (only child). Dorma was born in Battle Creek, MI. Dorma married Richard Waller from Decatur, IL. William Powell (Jr) had at least two children, a son named Willie and a daughter named Jaunita or Juanita. I don't know his wife's name, but he was a widower in 1920. I think Frank Delorme's parents were Joseph and Natalie Delorme, with children Adaline (1864?), Joseph(1868?), Daniel((1872?), Frank(1876?), and Sadie(1900?). Joseph Delorme (Jr) married Lizzie C. Meyer in 1892. I know I have quite a bit of family, some that I know of and others that I don't know in Decatur, IL, on my dad's side (Waller), but I know nothing about my mother's side of the family. Any information would greatly help! Thanks, Cindy Bealer

Joseph Mayer (Meyer) was my mom's dad. He lived in the Twin Falls/ Jerome part of Idaho I believe. He died when my mom was only 13 and she knows almost nothing on his side of the family. His father was Fredrich William Mayer (Meyer). Fred Mayer would have been born approx 1870 or so. So maybe your Joseph could be his father or uncle? But Fredrich is also listed on family records as just William or Milo Mayer. He married Anna Behrend and they came out from South Dakota and before that they started in Minnesota or possibly Wisconsin area. My mom said she remembers her dad's brothers and sisters but is not sure if any are still living here are the names: Joseph Born: 8-3-1906 (or the 18th) Dimock SD Math Ina Maragaret Leonard William (Bill) Katherine (Kate) I don't know the dates of birth for any of these people or even where they were born. I know that my Grandfather Joseph was only allowed to speak German in the house growing up and they had all German traditions so his father Frederich might have come over straight from Germany. My mom was told that our family is from Southern Germany and that we still have Family in the Munich area although we don't know who there are. I would appreciate any info that you might have on the Mayers/Meyers if anything matches? Thank you for your time. Stacey
