    1. [MEXICAN-WAR] question on level of entry
    2. Not even sure if this board is still running. I know rootsweb closes down in 2 days. What kind of requirements were there to join an infantry as a Sgt? Age, status or nothing.  Luck of the draw? I have a 25 yr old relative for an Ohio based Capt. Stout's unit out of Dayton, Ohio.  He lived in Wayne County, Ohio. lafinken@aol.com Lindsey

    2. Jerrian D Barsness
    3. Hi, New to list. I have been trying to find my ancestor, my 2nd great-grandfather, Ira Marion Pierce, on the muster rolls listed on line. He was in Company F IILL Infantry. Ira was born in Sangamon county, Illinois, on January 15, 1826. I thought if I could find some records, there might be a picture? Thanks, Jerrian P.S. The Co. F IILL Inf. was on his tombstone.

    1. [MEXICAN-WAR] Ohio Co. K 2nd Infantry
    2. How can I find out what happened to a man in the Ohio 2nd Inf. Company K which was originally Co. A? I have his military file and it does not show his disposition at the time the war ended. My man didn't die until 1856 cause of death unknown if it related to any war issues. William Anderson was his name from Wayne County Ohio. According to headstone it says age 33 at death so that makes him born abt 1828. Thanks if you can help. Lindsey

    1. [MEXICAN-WAR] Ohio rosters
    2. Does anyone have access to rosters for Wayne County Ohio? I am specifically looking for the unit that William Anderson of Blachleyville, Plain Twp., Wayne County Ohio was in. He died in 1856 and next to his stone is a veterans symbol marker in the ground that says from the Mexican War. He died at age 33. Thanks Lindsey

    1. [MEXICAN-WAR] Fwd: pension question
    2. I have a question regarding my ancestor. His pension file says "completed file" in what I obtained from NARA. He died July 1850 from disease of the war. He obtained a pension but died even before the first payment. So if that file says completed file then how would anyone know that his widow did or did not apply for anything if they don't connect the two files? WHen I applied for his pension (that is when it cost $37) back in 2002 I asked for the full file. I had her name on it as spouse too. I found out much later she has her own file number and I would have ordered it at the time many years ago if I had known. I have yet to ask for the file from NARA but it appears I have to use Form 85 same as I used for asking for his pension papers. Is line 10 of the form where I put her file number so they only give me what I don't already have? Thanks for input. Lindsey

    2. If someone fought in both the Mexican War and the Civil War would his Mexican War service records be combined/included with his Civil War Service records? The reason I ask, is I plan to order my Great Great Great Grandfathers Service and Pensions records. For free information, you might try some MS county histories to see if the enlistees are recorded. For a fee, the National Archives would have his enlistment record and his bounty land application file. That would give you his rank. When requesting a file on line from the National Archives, I would put his rank as enlisted and then in the remarks section of the form put "not sure of rank".
