Dear Bob and others: As far as I know, (which isn't really very far, since none of these people are in my own line -- I'm just gathering data wherever I can find it to add to the collection being put together by the Whitney Research Group), the Whitneys in Washington County got there late in the 18th Century - perhaps around or soon after 1780 - and were there for several generations after that. There is a village of Whitneyville not too far from Machias. My subscription to the maillist was intended to allow me to spot queries that included this specific surname, and try to find information about Whitneys that we of the WRG didn't yet have. If there are others on the MEWASHIN-L list who have Whitney connections, I would be happy to try to fill in whatever information is currently available about those Whitney people, and thus make a contribution to others.
