What is your source for the birthdate of John Thompson? Could it have been about ten years earlier? The Thompsons of the Machias area went there from Scarboro, ME, George by 1765. The Jonesboro Thompsons seem to descend from Paul, perhaps an older bro of George. If so tat Paul was a son of George & Ruth (Scott) Thompson of Portsmouth, NH & Scarboro. Paul, still of Scarboro bought 600 acres in Jonesboro in Nov 1789 for himself and his five minor sons, viz, James, John, Paul, Huston & Thomas. Paul died at Englishman's River (Rogues Bluff) 4 Oct 1814, ae 74 & his wf Sarah on 3 May 1829, ae 84y 6m. Son James was bp 24 Nov 1771, followed by Paulina in Dec 1774. I have not researched this further, but as John was apparently Paul's 2nd son, a birth about 1776 might be about right. Assuming the above may be so, might your John be he of "Chandlerville" (presumably meaning Chandler's River in Jonesboro) whose m ints were recorded Machias 2 Jul 1803, the bride being Eliz. Tupper? Sorry I have only this scant info on this family so can not be more definite in my response. Sincerely Jerry Gower
