    3. Ethelind Wright asked "who were the ancestors of the Lewis S. Longfellow family found in the Machias 1850 census: According to the "Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary of the Settlement of Machias" (commonly referred to as 'the 1863 Book) pg. 168 ... Lewis S. is listed as the 4th child of Jonathan Longfellow and his wife Sally Boynton. This Jonathan Longfellow is listed under perhaps the families of the "New Hampshire Branch". Sally Boynton is in the same book (pg. 155) as the d/o Amos Boynton and his wife ? Libby. Amos came from Byfield, MA in 1766. The "Earliest Records of Machias, Maine" by Jackson show Sally's birth at Machias as 22 Dec. 1777. Jonathan Longfellow and Sally Boynton were married 11 Dec. 1797. I can find no birth record for Lewis S. Longfellow in Machias, however according to the Machias Vital Records ( pg. 336), Lewis S. Longfellow and married Hannah Sargent on 5 July 1847. Drisko's History of Machias tells us that Hannah was Lewis' 2nd wife. and gives her full name as Hannah Webber Sargent. Hope this helps... 3. Hope this might add something to your family search. There was a Gilbert Longfellow, listed as a "Merchant" in Machias during the early 1860s. Good luck... Bob Jackson ----
