(There is no date on this clipping, but the death of Mrs. Annie McClary, wife of Harry A. McClary on January 8, 1938 was in the message "Newspaper Clippings-46.") MRS. HARRY M'CLARY DIED THIS MORNING Pneumonia Claimed One of Best Known Women in This Section of Province, The death occurred this morning at her home, "Cherry Bank Cottage", Springhill, of Mrs. Annie Donaldson McClary, wife of Harry A. McClary, after a week's illness with pneumonia. Mrs. McClary was born in Fredericton, a daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Howie) Donaldson and lived her entire life here and at Springhill. She attended Fredericton schools and was most active as a young woman in the affairs of St. Paul's Church before union. She was active in Saint Andrew's Presbyterian Church and deeply interested in St. Peter's Church, Springhill, of which Mr. McClary is an officer. She did not confine her activities to the church but rather in the highways and byways of life, where she looked after the less fortunate people. Her home in Springhill was always open and many a basket of provisions was sent to a needy family and nothing said about it. The unfortunate transients, who often spent the night in the way station at Springhill will remember Mrs. McClary for her kindness, she always leaving a basket of food in the station so that none would go hungry. Her love for dumb animals was known all over Canada and in many parts of the United States, she keeping a careful eye on animals in Springhill and in the city as a whole. Mrs. McClary never found the hour too late or too early to go out and look into complaints about cruelty and accompanied members of the R. C. M. P. on many investigations and saw that the animals concerned were either put to sleep or better cared for. She was intensely found of children and always had one or more around her. Her love for the aged and sick was known to everyone and she thought nothing of walking miles to lend assistance or stay up at night with some one who otherwise would have been alone. At Christmas time she looked after many and was never as happy as when she was doing something for someone else. Her last thought was of herself and those who benefitted by her ministrations will long revere her memory. Mrs. McClary was in Fredericton a few days before Christmas and met and talked with many of her friends. She was busy buying gifts for children and shutins at Springhill and in Fredericton and it is thought she may have contracted a cold at that time. Pneumonia developed a week ago and her death this morning has closed a life well filled with good and abundant deeds and abundantly lived. In her passing Fredericton and Springhill have lost a woman whose good deeds will follow her. Her death will occasion sorrow wherever she was known. Mrs. McClary was a member of the York-Sunbury Historical Society and was deeply interested in its work, giving several valuable gifts as well as her support. She was a former member of the Women's Institute at Kingsclear and a silent worker in many good causes. She is survived by her husband, Harry A. McClary, and a step-daughter Mrs. Weymss Grant, Woodstock, and several nephews and nieces, one of whom. Miss Agnes Wharton of Jamaica Plains, Mass., was with her when she died.
