    3. Hello, While going through some boxes of papers this morning, I came across a Xerox copy of the marriage certificate from my great-grandfather's first marriage. In 1897 in Eastport, ME, George "Sanford" Kidder married Hattie May Chubbuck. Unfortunately, she died only 6 months after the wedding. (He remarried in 1899 .. Louise Wellington Rice.) KIDDER is my main research*, and, even after 8 years, I still have a lot to learn about the Kidder families in Princeton, Maine, from about 1850 to the present. However, I have gathered a few facts. "Sanford" Kidder's father was Joseph Kidder, and he was one of three brothers who owned large farms in Princeton, ME, in the late 1800's. Joseph married a Clarissa WILKINS. (She is also seen as having the name, Clara Wilson.) From an 1862 Census from NB, she was American-born. But, this Certificate states she was born in Canterbury. So, I know that not all information is totally correct on this marriage certificate. But, here, Joseph Kidder is listed as having been born in Milltown, ME. I looked on my road map, and I don't see that town listed. Would someone be able to tell me where it is? His father was J. Calvin Kidder, who grew up in St. Stephen, NB, and came back across the river around 1832 to settle in Calais, ME. He married Mary Jane Wilkins from Amity, ME, in 1834. And, I believe they lived in several towns between Calais and Amity, so I suspect Milltown was up there someplace. My great-grandfather's first wife, Mrs. Hattie Kidder, grew up in Meddybemps, ME. I did find that on my road map. Her parents were Martin and Clarissa Chubbuck of Meddybemps, ME. "Sanford" and Martin were both "woodsmen," so I suspect that's how they met. (Still searching for information on the Harmony Sawmill in St. Stephen, NB) Just thought I'd provide the above information, and ask about Milltown, ME. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. Also still searching for information as to whether George Wilkins (Clarissa Kidder's father) and Mary Jane (Wilkins) Kidder (Mrs. J. Calvin Kidder) were related. (Both George and Mary Jane were born around 1800, and might have both been born around Amity, ME.)
