Marriage intentions were filed at Calais for Benjamin Franklin REED and Harriet Emaline WHITNEY on 27 May 1854. To date I have been unable to connect her to any WHITNEY family in Washington county. He was born in Claremont, NH 9 Nov 1825. She was born 12 Feb 1829, ostensibly in Maine. I have been operating on the assumption that SHE was the one with residence in Calais. It is said that at an early age he left home to live with an uncle. I had assumed that the uncle lived in NH. With the remote chance that the uncle instead lived in Calais and that this is why the intention is filed in Calais, what do we know of the REED line in Calais. With REED being such a common name, I am sure that there is a line in Calais, but is it mine??? Thanks
