    3. Dorene.. I have done some research on the Stratton family and in particular Helen Stratton Vose who married Harry Vose.. I did the research at the request of her daughter Marjorie Vose McCulley. For an added bit of info for you I live across the street from the Stratton house and the site of the Stratton blacksmith shop. The Stratton men had the shop for over 65 years at that location. The house, which had gone to bad repair, was purchased a couple of years ago by a retired minister from Maryland and they have restored .. and it is just wonderful what they have done. The main bit of information I have on the Stratton's is from the "History of Machias, Maine" by George Drisko - page 549-550. It tells us that Joseph Stratton was born June 12, 1809 in Newton, Ards Co. Down, Ireland and came to the US and Machias in 1825. He learned the blacksmith trade from Daniel Longfellow and worked for him for 9 years. .. his wife was Cordelia. They had 3 sons - Charles, Joseph Jr., & George who all worked with their father in the blacksmith shop. In 1877 Joseph Jr moved to Boston in 1877.. George died in 1888 Your George married Mrs. Keziah Spring of Milltown, New Brunswick, Canada - with only one child Helen who married Harry Vose - they had one child Charles W. Vose. I have the obituary for Helen Stratton Vose from the Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1955 issue of the Machias Valley News Observer. Not much in it except that funeral services were held Thursday at Watterman's Chapel, Kenmore Square, Boston. - She was 76 years old. She is buried here in Machias at the Longfellow Cemetery in the Emma (Perry) Means lot. Emma Means was her niece. I am told that she used to stay with Emma and her family for long periods of time. The Machias History also has information on the Vose family .. If you want I can send you copies of what I have.. it might be easier for you to figure out the relationships. Send me your snail mail address... Val Atwood in Machias On Tue, 09 Jan 2001 19:46:16 -0500 "Dorene Bartlett" <baabaa59@hotmail.com> writes: > Looking for descendents of Helen M.
