    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Keyes Family of Eastport
    2. Kenneth Harrington McKeever
    3. Greetings, I may have posted a similar question before but have since come across a few more clues. I am trying to find the names of the parents of one of my ancestors, Phoebe Ann Keyes (b. abt. 1805) in MA. She married Andrew Harrington III in Eastport, ME. I suspect she may be related (daughter or sister) to Jonas Temple Keyes (son of Israel Keyes and Dorothy Temple, b. 28 OCT 1788 in MA, died 29 OCT 1831 in Eastport, ME)who moved to Eastport from Massachusetts. Jonas married Nancy the widow of Robert Harrington. That Robert was the uncle of Andrew Harrington III and brother of Andrew's father Andrew Harrington II. A daughter of Jonas is listed in several FTM sites. Her name was Dolly Temple Keyes and she married John Bent. Phoebe Ann Keyes and her husband Andrew Harrington III had nine children. They named their first Israel K. Harrington (I suspect for Israel Keyes). There seventh child, John Bent Harrington, my ancestor, was possibly named for John Bent, the husband of Dolly Keyes. I hypothesize that John Bent may have been John B. Harrington's Godfather. I seem to recall records listing a Rev. Jonas T. Keyes and that may explain why he would migrate from MA to way downeast. Does anyone on the list know the parents of Phoebe Ann Keyes? Was she Jonas T. Keyes' daughter, sister, or cousin? Does anyone know who her parents were? 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Suggestion
    2. Valdine C. Atwood
    3. To all.. I have a suggestion to make and I hope that everyone takes it as such. When asking for someone to look up some information for you it is helpful if you include as much information about the search as you can. For instance if requesting information on John Doe... if possible give the time period - was it in 1895 or 1795... give the area... was it in Calais, Maine or was it in Steuben, Maine ... was the spouse Mary Smith or was it Mary Jones... all these clues give the person trying to help you more to go on. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Re: Machias Book
    2. Val, Can I impose upon you to look up to see if there are any ELSEMORE's listed in the book that you have? I'm searching for my Elsemore's ancestry and my mother thinks that my GGrandfather William Keene Elsemore was from that area. I've not been able to find him or any of his family so far so this is one of my many brick walls. Thanks Bill Jessup NY

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary of Machias
    2. Valdine C. Atwood
    3. To Patty... Your message wanting the copy write page of the Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary of the Settlement of Machias was received... but your e-mail address did not appear, so I need to answer you to all.... the only thing that appears on the title page is the name of the book and at the bottom of the page MACHIAS: PRINTED BY C.O. FURBUSH. 1863. For your information the book was privately reprinted in a limited edition back in 1975 as the U.S. Bicentennial Reprint Edition.. by Rosemary E. Bachelor and Harriet A. Webb -- both formally of Machias. Regretfully even the reprint is now out of print. The book itself is a gem.. small in size..179 pages, with a wonderful genealogy section in the back featuring many of the original settlers.. it does not give dates but family lines to the 3rd generation... a wonderful resource.. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Lewis S. Longfellow & family
    2. Valdine C. Atwood
    3. Ethelind Wright asked "who were the ancestors of the Lewis S. Longfellow family found in the Machias 1850 census: According to the "Memorial of the Centennial Anniversary of the Settlement of Machias" (commonly referred to as 'the 1863 Book) pg. 168 ... Lewis S. is listed as the 4th child of Jonathan Longfellow and his wife Sally Boynton. This Jonathan Longfellow is listed under perhaps the families of the "New Hampshire Branch". Sally Boynton is in the same book (pg. 155) as the d/o Amos Boynton and his wife ? Libby. Amos came from Byfield, MA in 1766. The "Earliest Records of Machias, Maine" by Jackson show Sally's birth at Machias as 22 Dec. 1777. Jonathan Longfellow and Sally Boynton were married 11 Dec. 1797. I can find no birth record for Lewis S. Longfellow in Machias, however according to the Machias Vital Records ( pg. 336), Lewis S. Longfellow and married Hannah Sargent on 5 July 1847. Drisko's History of Machias tells us that Hannah was Lewis' 2nd wife. and gives her full name as Hannah Webber Sargent. Hope this helps...
