    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Wrong name
    2. I had the wrong name. Joseph Casey had a son named Jeremiah born in 1855 in Calais and Jeremiah married Mary Morrison in 1885. (I had said Joseph married in 1885. which should have been Jeremiah) Sorry about that. Janice in FL

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Can someone answer my question, please
    2. Alta Flynt
    3. Hi, This is not a genealogy question but it is bothering me a little. I hope someone can tell me. Every time I post a message about the Thistle Mission Band, I get it returned to me by Moe who is apparently subscribed to the Washington County list. The "replied to message" - that is the message I sent - is just garbage symbols. I don't know what they mean. Am I the only one that gets these replies? Am I doing something wrong? I'm not that expert with my computer or the Net. I'd appreciate any clues about this. Alta

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Research in Maine
    2. Hi Everyone, I am new to searching in Maine. Most of my research has been in Mass. But I just found some of my family in Maine. Jeremiah Casey born 1855 in Calais, Maine. His fathers name was Joseph Casey born in Ireland. Joseph Casey married around 1885 in Calais Maine. Does anyone have any birth indexes or marriage indexes going back that far. Also here are a few questions if any one can help me. 1- What County is Calais Maine in. 2-How do I obtain a birth Cert. for someone born in 1855 in Calais, Maine 3-How do I obtain a Marriage Cert. for someone married in 1855 in Calais. I am sure they were Catholic. 4- Also any hints how to search the 1860 Census for them. The FHC has something like 40 films for Maine in 1860. Thought I would try finding his Father Joseph in the 1860 Census. If anyone can give me any help or hints I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much, Janice in FL Searching Surnames: Casey, Murphy, McCarthy, Kelleher, Terry, Minihan, Whelan

    3. I was requested to submit these newspaper clippings with just the surnames for the subject rather than "Thistle Mission Band Newspaper Clippings." I have had several responses from people who have said that they read, and enjoy, the clippings because although their surname isn't mentioned, their family is from the area and they find bits of interesting information. I don't want to take the chance of any of these people missing the clippings because of a changed subject line so I am compromising. I have added a list of surnames at the beginning of the message. "Main surnames" are the deceased and the maiden name of a woman if it is given. "Also" includes pall bearers, mourners, clergymen, etc. I hope this will help everyone get the most benefit from these newspaper clippings. Alta Main Surnames: SHAW, PICKARD, CLOWATER, LIPSETT, MORGAN - Also: ROWAN, McLAGGAN, NILES, BAXTER, YERXA, FRASER, CUNNINGHAM-MUNROE, BATE, TELFORD, RICKER LATE HAZEN A. SHAW. Many at Funeral This Afternoon of Young Man Killed in Automobile Accident The funeral of the late Hazen A. Shaw took place this afternoon from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church where the body rested from noon until three o'clock. Service was conducted by Rev. D. Cunningham-Munroe, formerly of Scotland and many friends were at the service. There were many beautiful floral tributes from friends and relatives and interment was made in the Church of England cemetery at New Maryland where the committal prayers were read by Rev. W. J. Bate. The pall bearers were all friends of deceased, Gregory Rowan, Douglas McLaggan, Walter Niles, Lloyd Baxter, Donald Yerxa and Jack Fraser. From noon until the hour of the service many friends of the deceased visited the church and paid a last tribute of respect to his memory and expressed sympathy for the family so tragically bereaved. In sad and loving memory of Hazen Shaw, who passed away August 29, 1933. There is some one who misses you sadly, And find the time long since you went. There is some one who thinks of you always, And tries to be brave and content. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Pleasant Point
    2. I have ancestors from the Eastport area. William Marshall, b 1844 in Eastport to Edward and Nancy Marshall. None of them are in the 1850 ME census. Family lore mentions Pleasant Point. All I can find now is the Indian Reservation. Did non-Native Americans live at Pleasant Point? If so, are there records out there, and why is Pleasant Point not found in the 1850 ME Census? I am in Michigan, and totally unfamiliar with the area. Any help appreciated. Thanks- Mary Marshall Tiernan
