My gggrandmother was Amanda McDONALD ROBINSON. Her parents are said to be William McDONALD and Love RAMSDELL. Amanda married Sanford Hunt ROBINSON (Dec. 26, 1831, OR, was it 1824?) and, when still young, they moved to Strongs Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin, where Amanda died and is buried. On her gravestone it says "AMANDA wife of S.H. ROBINSON Died Oct 1, 1871 aged 36 years 1 mo and 10 days". Our family records, compiled by my grandfather in the 1940s, state that Amanda McDonald was born in Scotland (October 1834, he wrote) but we have no other evidence of this. He noted that their son Charles S. ROBINSON was born March 6, 1863, in Maine, but he gave no other birth data on their other children that he listed as: Martha, Mary Lizzie, Andrew Bradford, and Joseph Strout. Could anyone tell me about Amanda and the McDONALD line and, also, who the parents of Love RAMSDELL are? I am coming to Eastport, Me, in October (Elderhostel trip) and would appreciate some leads as to where to begin looking for good, sound documentation on Amanda McDONALD. Thanks for any help. Hello, In a couple weeks we will be driving through Machias and I'd like to find gravestones of some of our ancestors. Please let me know locations of cemeteries, particularly with dates in early 1800s. (Some of the surnames are SCOTT, WESCOTT, THOMPSON, CATES, SEAVEY, WOODRUFF, & HOLMES). Thank you,
I can't answer your question, but since you mentioned Butlers - I am looking for a T. Franklin Butler who filed two intentions to marry Maria Jane Douglass in Calais in 1879. I want to know if the marriage ever took place and what happened to Mr. Butler. I am interested if anyone has seen any signs of long-gone houses on islands in Meddybemps Lake. There is a 'solid' story of a Butler family living on one of them in the late 1820s or early 1830s, until the cabin burned, killing one of the children. This has been a tough family to figure out. Two males (almost certainly brothers) are listed in the 1820s Pioneer register of Alexander. Tom Moffatt P. O. Sorry I cannot attend the reunion. I'm in California - clear across the U.S. I know it will be wonderful. My Gray line ends with Sarah "Sally" Gray born 30 Nov. 1778 in what was later Clinton, ME. She died 30 Nov. 1813. Married 17 March 1801 in Clinton, ME, Silas Emery. Their daughter, Ruth Gray Emery, born 1 May 1804 married William Steward 7 May 1828 in Bloomfield, ME. I have information , kindly sent to me by R. W. Gray of Belchertown, MA, that Sarah's father was John Gray. Can anyone assist by providing confirmation of this and any additional data on Sarah's ancestry? I would be most appreciative. Has the question of John Gray's parentage been straightened out? Thank you. Revae California

This is good info to know while researching for your ancestors. Just wanted you all to know about this. List: Fraudulent pedigrees compiled by Gustave Anjou are listed here (scroll down first web page link) http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/fraud/fraud.htm If any of your source material contains references to his works, or family histories compiled from his works, then you are more than likely on the wrong track. These 'genealogies' have made their way into libraries, repositories, AND the Family History Library. Be sure to read the introduction on each of the three main web pages. It is sobering material. This is one example why every 'fact' gathered from compiled material (read web site, book, maillist, etc.) should be accompanied by a source citation....so we can check it out for ourselves! ______________________________

Dear Janice: I just thought it might be helpful to pass along a couple of tips I got from an old pro some years back (before the era of the Internet). I was told to get two resources that would be forever useful. One was a book called "The Handy Book for Genealogists," published by Everton Publishers out in Utah (they have a web site) and the other was a Rand McNally road atlas from some place like Wal-Mart. The latter is something I update every few years, as it goes on the road with me when I travel on research trips. They are quite cheap -- less than $5.00. The Handy Book contains answers to virtually any and every question one might need to ask about a locality, including where the county seats of every county is located, who has what records, their span of years, and lots of other addresses for important library and local historical societies. I hope this is helpful to you. Allan E. Green
