    3. Karin... As I said in my personal e-mail to you I will be able to send you lots of things on Horatio Balch in a couple of days. I just looked at my copy of the Bangor Historical Magazine and there are seven pages that mention him in that set of books.. I have photocopied them and will send them along to you if you will send me your snail-mail address. Also several years ago I did research on the Dutton family (his first wife was a Dutton) so I do have some other materials on him... but in all it is too much to transcribe to an e-mail.. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Re: Washington County Sheriff's Office
    2. Thanks to Karen for the link - I didn't find anything on my lines in the stuff from Sheriff Cooper -- but I got a great surprise when I saw that the second sheriff of the county was Horatio Balch (1821-1829). He is in my line - from the year's of service I assume he was my great-grandfather's uncle or great-uncle. Does anyone have any other information on Sheriff Balch? Karin Morey Oregon City OR

    3. Hi Listers, I'm searching for the burial place of Julia Hoyt, my gt-g-mother who lived most of her (all is what I think) in the Machias area. I can't find her death record altho it's supposed to have been on 24 July 1924 in East Machias. I don't even have a date for my gggfather, let alone a place. His name was Urban. Two questions or requests: 1. Does her name appear on any cemetery list that anyone has access to? and 2. One of their children died in Marshfield, is that still a functioning town with a town hall and it's own cemetery? Thanks, from the far west, Pat

We cannot say, we must not say That she is dead, She is just away! With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand She has wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since she lingers there. So think of her faring on as dear In the love of There as the love of Here! Think of her still as the same and say, She is not dead; she is just away. Sadly missed by SISTER, Dee. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] Casey Research
    2. First of all I want to Thank everyone for all the help and replays I got from this list a couple of weeks ago. I had so many replays. What a great list this is. I had to go out of town is why I was unable to answer you sooner. A couple of weeks ago I wrote that I was looking for a Joseph Casey in Calais, ME that had a son named Jeremiah Casey in B.1855. I had gotten the name Joseph on Jeremiah's Death Cert. But now after all the kind answers I got I am thinking Joseph could be wrong. 2 kind people sent me an ME census and a Canada Census. (Below) And the Jeremiah Jr., was the right age of my Jeremiah. Also my Jeremiah named one of his children Catherine. So maybe his father was named Jeremiah also. My Jeremiah born in 1855 died in Lawrence, MA. I had sent for an orbit to see if lists any of his brothers or Sisters. I also found out that my Jeremiah born in 1855 had some of his children born in Canada, I had said Ireland before but the 1920 Census for Mass. was hard to read. I now can see that it said CA. I also have found out that my Jeremiah born in 1855 had a brother that was a Catholic Bishop in Canada. Now I am thinking he was across the border and this is where the children were Baptized. Does anyone know the Catholic Church in Maine and also in NB Canada. I need info. how to find out where I can find information on a Fr. Casey who was a Bishop. Ans. no 1 The Family at in the previous other reply to you was in Canada in 1861 Jermiah 42 Irish Catherine 37 Irish Catherine 13 Irish William 9 US Jermiah 7 US Patrick 4 US Margaret 1 Born in Canada There were in Charlotte County New Brunswick Parish of Dumberton. Charlotte is next to Washington County Maine and Calais is where the bridge is to go back an forth. This may be part of the Casey Family you are looking for. Ans. No 2 I couldn't find a Joseph in Calais but did find Jeremiah, Sr. in 1870 census in Calais, Washington, Maine: roll 562, page 85B -- this is hard to read: Casey, Jeremiah, 50, laborer, b. Ireland, parents both of foreign birth " Catherine, 43?, keeping house, " " " William, 18?, seaman, b. Maine, " " Kate, 20, at. dom. service, b. Ireland, " " Jeremiah, 16, at sea, b. Maine, " " Patrick, 13, at school, " " " Margaret, 10, " " " " Timothy, 8, b. Maine, " " Thomas, 6, " " If this is the right family, it looks like the family emigrated c. 1851. Again I want to Thank everyone so much for all your help. Janice in FL
