Hannah Allen was one of the 12 children of Obediah Allen (by his 2nd wife Mary Ingersoll Rideout). I'm not aware of any published genealogy or of any evidence that would suggest that John Allen was a son of Obediah, by either of his two wives. As you may know, there is a history of John Allen and his activities, including family descendants, by Frederic Kidder. It used to be available from the NEHGS, but they don't seem to have it anymore. I did spot it in the Higginson Catalogue. MILITARY OPERATIONS IN EASTERN MAINE & NOVA SCOTIA During the Revolution. By Frederic Kidder. 336p. (J. Munsell; 1867) 1996. $42.00 There is so much material in it on Allen that a mere lookup is not enough. There are CHAPTERS on him. Tom Moffatt St. David Parish Coordinator
A new topographic map is up. With contours at 50, 100, 150 metres it shows clearly the relationship between height and successful early settlement. Note also it clearly indicates that the major fault line up the St. Croix and through Oak Bay does continue through Gallop & Foster Lakes. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbstdavi/topomap.html New descents from Green Brown, including St. David, Cooper and Meddybemps material. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbstdavi/greenbrown.html A Link through to the full 'Memorial to Moores, Hitchings and Livingstone', since these families were based in St. David. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcharlo/memorial.htm A note on the Genealogies page on an error in the above related to ISAAC COOK and his wife SUSANNA DUSTEN http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbstdavi/genealogies.html Interesting observations on St. David Parish in 1803 - and were white pines from here at the Battle of the Nile? http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbstdavi/1803descript.html LEONARD SCOTT's poems of growing up on TOWER HILL (ST. DAVID) in the 1820s - check them out at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbstdavi/poemsscott.html Coming soon (probably this weekend): Information on Mark Scott and other Scotts of Tower Hill >From Tom Moffatt St. David Coordinator
What is your source for the birthdate of John Thompson? Could it have been about ten years earlier? The Thompsons of the Machias area went there from Scarboro, ME, George by 1765. The Jonesboro Thompsons seem to descend from Paul, perhaps an older bro of George. If so tat Paul was a son of George & Ruth (Scott) Thompson of Portsmouth, NH & Scarboro. Paul, still of Scarboro bought 600 acres in Jonesboro in Nov 1789 for himself and his five minor sons, viz, James, John, Paul, Huston & Thomas. Paul died at Englishman's River (Rogues Bluff) 4 Oct 1814, ae 74 & his wf Sarah on 3 May 1829, ae 84y 6m. Son James was bp 24 Nov 1771, followed by Paulina in Dec 1774. I have not researched this further, but as John was apparently Paul's 2nd son, a birth about 1776 might be about right. Assuming the above may be so, might your John be he of "Chandlerville" (presumably meaning Chandler's River in Jonesboro) whose m ints were recorded Machias 2 Jul 1803, the bride being Eliz. Tupper? Sorry I have only this scant info on this family so can not be more definite in my response. Sincerely Jerry Gower

Hi List, This is my first posting to this list and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tina Townsend and I am researching my Golding family line. I have just started out and the only name I have is Elgin/Algie Golding, b. 1895 of Lubec, ME. If anyone is also researching the Golding surname I would love to correspond with you, as this is my biological line of whom I knew nothing about until a month ago. Thank you in advance. Tina
http://www.gutenberg.cyberxs.nl/etext98/file.html?file=chgnt10.txt Mr. Murdoch was mistaken in the age of Allan. John Allan was born in Edinburgh Castle at about "half after one" of the clock, on January 3rd, 1746 (O. S.), and was baptized on the 5th by Mr. Glasgow. He thus must have been in his 30th year when he joined the Eddy rebels. After Colonel Eddy's interview with Colonel Allan in Machias Bay, he pushed on to Cumberland, and landed in Petitcodiac. His little army had increased considerably since he left Machias. At the mouth of the Petitcodiac River he stationed a small force to watch for any reinforcements that might be coming to Fort Cumberland. With the main body of his followers he started overland for Chignecto, after he had supplied his commissariat from the loyal settlers along the river.
Hi, I am looking for info on a Col. John Allan. He was born 3 Jan 1747 in Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland and died 7 Feb. 1805 in Lubeec, ME. He was a Rev. War Soldier and did alot for the State of Maine. If you have anything about his military history, parents and children, I would love to hear from you. Also, does anyone know where i can get a copy of "The Hostory of Whiting, ME"? I have searched evrywhere for it and can't locate it.
