    1. [MEWASHIN-L] RootsWeb Maintenance
    2. Marilyn
    3. Hi Listers, FYI............... Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a planned temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process. It will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with increased performance and reliability for future growth. In the meantime, please take time to visit RootsWeb.com's sister sites -- Ancestry.com and FamilyHistory.com -- where you will find additional tools such as message boards, communities, and databases to help you in the search for your ancestors. So don't get discouraged if you're having trouble getting to a database they should be back up later in the day. Marilyn

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] TWO KIDDER / WILKINS MARRIAGES IN NORTHERN MAINE - 1800'S .... WILKINS RELATED???
    2. bbffrrpp
    3. Hello, Among my KIDDER ancestors who were centered around Princeton, Maine, from 1850 on, were two men, a father and son, who both married women with the surname, WILKINS. I had originally guessed that they were somehow related: "Calvin" Kidder married Mary Wilkins in 1834, I believe, and they lived their married life between Amity and Calais, Maine. Mary Jane Wilkins was from Amity, Maine, in Aroostook County. Their son, Joseph Kidder, married Clarissa Wilkins in 1869, and they lived their married life in Princeton, Maine. Clarissa Wilkins was the daughter of George W. Wilkins and Mary Ann (Harriman) Wilkins. They were living in Canterbury, NB, in the 1861 Census, and when Clarissa met Joseph Kidder. Clarissa and some of her siblings were born in Maine, so that is where the family originated. The rest of the children were born in New Brunswick. A very helpful lady has just provided me the information that George W. Wilkins probably came from Newburyport, MA. And, his wife, the former Mary Ann Harriman came from Sommersworth, NH, and they married in Sommersworth in 1845. My question is about George W. Wilkins and Miss Mary Jane Wilkins who were probably born within a year of each other, probably around 1800. Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkins probably lived the beginning of their married life in northern Maine. And, Mr. and Mrs. "Calvin" Kidder lived the beginning part of their married life in Amity, ME, where Mrs. Kidder was living when she first met "Calvin." Does anyone know if they were somehow related? Or, is it possible that Mary Jane Wilkins grew up in a Wilkins family from northern Maine or New Brunswick, and was not related to George W. Wilkins who probably moved up that way after his marriage in 1845. (Note: Mary Jane Wilkins was living in Amity, ME, around 1830 or before.) Additionally, a family story was that one of my great-grandfather's aunts (?) was a Native American. He was G. Sanford Kidder, oldest son of Joseph and Clarissa (Wilkins) Kidder. Does anyone know of any Wilkins / Native American marriages in northern Maine in the 1700's? Is their any possibility that Miss Mary Jane Wilkins was part Native American? I know there is a Native American presence around Princeton, Maine, where my Kidder ancestors owned land, from possibly 1785. Thank you for your time, Betty (near Lowell, MA)

    3. Betty.... These are the only mentions of Kidder in A Leighton Genealogy by Perley Leighton. There are errors in this book, so I can't say anymore about these entries Benjamin Kidder married Mary Matilda Leighton after death of her first husband Rufus Morrison in 1879, and before she died in 1900 Mabel Doris Leighton b26 Oct 1906 married ------Kidder. She married again in 1933, so she was either a widow or divorced. Anne

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Mini Genealogy Fair and Lecture
    2. Notice: On Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the Genealogy Fair in Waltham, MA, Sharon Howland will be lecturing on the genealogy resources of Washington County, Maine and Charlotte County, NB. In addition to the lecture, some of Sharon's immense collection of information will be available for people to use. Some explanation needs to be made so people will not confuse the Genealogy Fair in Waltham, MA with the genealogy fairs in Washington County in the summer. The Genealogy Fair in Waltham is a new business started by Sharon Sergeant. It is located at 233 Lake St. in Waltham. The genealogy fairs in Washington County, ME are sponsored by local historical societies and are free. The March 17th event at the Genealogy Fair will take place from 10-4. A $5 entrance fee will be charged and can be used towards the purchase of items that Sharon Sergeant has for sale. Please contact Sharon Sergeant if you are planning to attend the event. E-mail Sharon Sergeant at: info@GenealogyFair.com For people who have never been to a genealogy fair, this is a great time to do hands on research and to talk with people researching in the same area. Who knows, maybe you will be bumping into long lost cousins who might have information that you have bee trying to find for years. Hope to see you there. 3. SUE ------ Other problems intervened so I'm remiss in responding to your kind note of 28 January 2001. My Gg/parents Peter Haggerty & Nancy McGuire resided someplace in NB from ~1825-1831, probably the Fredericton area, prior to moving to Bangor ME. When I came across the name Haggerty Cove, I was hopeful that it would be family connected and I am seeking any town or church records from Lepreau that may be revealing of my Haggerty heritage.
