    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Regarding GenForum
    2. This was received from a person on another list that I am on, and was written by someone on that list. We were asked to forward it on to other lists. "Ethics:" Hi everyone. This came as a message from the listowner for the Rockingham, New Hamspshire list that I belong to. I thought everyone ought to see what is going on. Mr. Marston has asked that we send this along to the lists we belong to so I am doing so. Please read the whole message to see what is going on. I think at the very least we ought to take it as a warning and a reminder that not all we find is correct information and just use it as a tool to look further. Lee Neilsen in Eastern Utah Dick Marston wrote: Listers: I have naively included a link to GenForum for those wishing to post and respond to Rockingham and Marston surname queries. Furthermore, I have innocently posted several responses on those forums. Today, I have amended the link on Rockingham's Queries Index Page to read as follows: **If you want still another place to search and post, try the Rockingham County message board on [genforum.genealogy.com/nh/rockingham/ ] WARNING!! Any information which you share on GenForum's message boards may be copied by Genealogy.com [/FamilyTreeMaker.com] and sold by them for profit either as data included on a monthly/annual subscription or as a CD for purchase. Much of this information is totally unreliable. Caveat emptor [Buyer beware]. In order to see what, if any, information Genealogy.com has acquired from your voluntary contributions, you will first need to subscribe to their service available to paying members only.** I am SO angry I could spit!! Until I started checking up on this fiasco about my father's pedigree, I had NO clue that Genealogy.com was doing this. I want to declare WAR! I can't get through to their leaders, but I sure would like to get through to their potential customers and unwitting voluntary contributors. Please feel free to copy and paste [or send] this warning wherever, or to whomever, you think might do the most good. You may post it as your own message or as a quote from me, whichever you prefer. Your help will be greatly appreciated."

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Frankie, Aurther, and Percy MCKNIGHT taken at the H. D. McKay Studio on Main Street in Calais, Maine. The photo appears to have been taken in the 1890s and the three children are approximately 2-5 years of age in the photograph. I have spelled the names just as they appear on the reverse of the photograph. I would guess that one of the three children is a female, however, with dresses for everyone it is sometimes difficult to tell. I'm hoping someone will recognize this family as their own so that the photographs can be returned to the family. So, if this is a member of your family or if you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] KIDDER / CHUBBUCK MARRIAGE 1897 EASTPORT (loc. of Milltown, ME) (Meddybemps)
    2. bbffrrpp
    3. Hello, While going through some boxes of papers this morning, I came across a Xerox copy of the marriage certificate from my great-grandfather's first marriage. In 1897 in Eastport, ME, George "Sanford" Kidder married Hattie May Chubbuck. Unfortunately, she died only 6 months after the wedding. (He remarried in 1899 .. Louise Wellington Rice.) KIDDER is my main research*, and, even after 8 years, I still have a lot to learn about the Kidder families in Princeton, Maine, from about 1850 to the present. However, I have gathered a few facts. "Sanford" Kidder's father was Joseph Kidder, and he was one of three brothers who owned large farms in Princeton, ME, in the late 1800's. Joseph married a Clarissa WILKINS. (She is also seen as having the name, Clara Wilson.) From an 1862 Census from NB, she was American-born. But, this Certificate states she was born in Canterbury. So, I know that not all information is totally correct on this marriage certificate. But, here, Joseph Kidder is listed as having been born in Milltown, ME. I looked on my road map, and I don't see that town listed. Would someone be able to tell me where it is? His father was J. Calvin Kidder, who grew up in St. Stephen, NB, and came back across the river around 1832 to settle in Calais, ME. He married Mary Jane Wilkins from Amity, ME, in 1834. And, I believe they lived in several towns between Calais and Amity, so I suspect Milltown was up there someplace. My great-grandfather's first wife, Mrs. Hattie Kidder, grew up in Meddybemps, ME. I did find that on my road map. Her parents were Martin and Clarissa Chubbuck of Meddybemps, ME. "Sanford" and Martin were both "woodsmen," so I suspect that's how they met. (Still searching for information on the Harmony Sawmill in St. Stephen, NB) Just thought I'd provide the above information, and ask about Milltown, ME. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. Also still searching for information as to whether George Wilkins (Clarissa Kidder's father) and Mary Jane (Wilkins) Kidder (Mrs. J. Calvin Kidder) were related. (Both George and Mary Jane were born around 1800, and might have both been born around Amity, ME.)

    3. For my own personal reasons I am in the process of listing all the surnames mentioned in this book. I thought it may be of interest and help to others in their genealogy research; so I will post this to the list as I get the towns completed. I personally will be unable to do look-ups, but I am making arrangements with an individual to do look-ups for those that need them. Please watch these postings, as soon as the individual has the information I will post their e-mail address, so you may contact them. ( to those that have already sent queries - I will forward your request when the individual has the info.) Angel . Those attending are encouraged to bring research problems, share new findings, and suggest programs and activities for the coming year. Looking forward to the April meeting, Roxanne Moore Sauicer, editor of Family Ties for the Bangor Daily News, will be the featured speaker at the meeting to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at the University of Maine at Machias.
