    1. [MEWASHIN-L] My Washington Co. stone walls
    2. I thought I would just throw out a list of the lines where I am currently stuck, just to see if someone on this list has already made the connection to the earlier generation. My problem couples: 1. Benjamin James, b. ca. 1811 in NH, d. 1873 in Calais, m. Sarah Glidden, b. Oct. 1812 in NH, d. 6 Mar 1892 in Princeton; both buried in Calais. Children: Ezekiel, Martha, Susan, Sarah, Horatio N., Josiah E., Ann E., Charles Frederick, Henrietta, Emerson. . 2. William Jones, b. Apr 1782, probably in Damariscotta, but perhaps NS or NB, d. 6 Mar 1863 in Trescott; m. Elizabeth Simmons (or Seamans), b. 20 Jun 1790 in St. John, NB, or Lubec, d. 31 Oct 1858 in Trescott. Both buried in Hill Road Cemetery, Trescott. Children: Samuel, Sarah Jane, Mary Ann, William, John, Elizabeth, Hiram A 3. Pliny Fisher, d. Waite; marriage intentions 29 Aug 1814 in Steuben with Betsy Parker, b. 3 Jul 1797, d. 10 Jan 1872, a widow. Only known child: Julia Ann Fisher, b. abt. 1818 in Steuben, d. Jul 1900 in Eastport; m. James Ripley (the younger) 9 Nov 1843 in Waite. 4. James E. Ripley, b. abt. 1795 in Jefferson, d. 12 Jan 1864 in Waite; m. 6 May 1813 in Nobleboro to Eunice Linscott, b. abt. 1791, d. 4 Feb 1858 in Waite. Both buried in Waite. Children: Mary L., Catharine H., James, Cushman B., Sylvanus, Albert, Nathaniel, Thomas, Edward. 5. Henry Scott, b. abt. 1812, perhaps in Alexander, d. 19 Oct. 1883 in Calais, m. Mary Beverly, b. abt. 1813 in Baileyville, d. before 1848, by which time her husband had married again. Mary is perhaps a daughter of Farnham Beverly and Lucy Peabody, who lived in Baileyville for a time and later in Whiting. Children of Henry Scott and Mary Beverly: John, Horace, Andrew Jackson, Amanda (always known as "Addie"). Henry's daughter by his second wife, Nancy _____: Mary Emma. 6. Elizabeth Jellison (or Jellerson), b. abt. 1837 in Miramichi, NB, d. 13 Dec. 1924 in Baileyville; married (1) 17 Jul 1858 in Mount Desert, Hancock, ME John McKenzie Wentworth, b. 10 Sep. 1825, d. abt. 1876 in Calais; married (2nd) Edward Dean, b. abt. 1856 in MacAdam or Magaguadevic, NB, d. May 1887 in Grand Lake Stream. Children by John M. Wentworth: John Thomas, Walter M. Children by Edward Dean: William Henry, Freddie F., Edward. John Wentworth's genealogy is documented in "The Wentworth Genealogy", by John Wentworth, 3 vols., 1878. I am interested in Elizabeth and Edward's genealogies. She does not appear to be a daughter of Sylvanus Jellison and Hannah Vye, as their daughter, Elizabeth was born in 1822. My grandmother always told me that her grandmother Elizabeth was married first to a "sea captain." John was a sailor. She also told me that Elizabeth was older than her 2nd husband and that he was terribly burned in a tannery fire and crawled home and died in the door yard. Any leads greatly appreciated. 3. Dear Roger and Dee We must all be related. My ancestry goes back to the Mayflower. Nathan Preston, Sr. and Elizabeth Rumery are in my line. My great great grandparents were Joseph Jones and Mary Preston Jones..............came to New York/Pa from Washington Co., Maine. Their daughter, Samantha Belle Jones McKinster is my great grandmother and she was born in Maine, came to New York, PA area and then moved on to Eau Claire, WI as did many of the people from that area.. The Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire is filled with Garnetts, Prestons, Jones, McKinsters along with many others who originated in Washington Co., Maine. Dee, I don't know how you are related, but Benners are also in the line. Can you tell us more? Pat Popple Chippewa Falls, WI ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger H. 1. [MEWASHIN-L] "Boards" Clarification
    2. Marilyn
    3. Hi Listers, Yesterday I posted a note about the "boards" being down. I just want to clarify that statement for you. RootsWeb has redesigned/transferred all our GenConnect Boards from Roots Web to Ancestry.com and they have caused major headaches for both genealogists and Board Administrators. Boards have been up/down, search engine works/doesn't work, pages look 1 way today, another way tomorrow. There are still GenConnect Board Administrators who haven't been able to "claim" ownership of their boards because of glitches. Keep the faith, these are still undergoing changes. Marilyn

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] Searching Techniques on new boards
    2. Marilyn
    3. Hi Listers, The "Boards" appear to be DOWN this morning. (7:30am, Saturday 30 June). I thought I'd give you a run down on how to be successful when searching the boards. Use BOOLEAN operators to fine-tune your search (see below). The programmers are working on the search section, so BOOLEAN searches may not always work. Enclose a phrase or search string in quotation marks to find messages containing certain words in a certain order. The keyword(s) Worthington Hills Cemetery will find messages containing Worthington, or Hills, or Cemetery. Adding the BOOLEAN quotation marks to the search string, "Worthington Hills Cemetery", will return only messages in which that exact phrase appears. A plus sign (+) in front of a word means that word must be in pages for them to be a match. For example, Obituary +Thompson will return only messages containing the word, obituary, that ALSO contain the word, Thompson. A minus sign (-) in front of a word means that any page that has that word is excluded from the list of matches. For example, "Morgan County" -Roberts will return messages containing the phrase "Morgan County", that DO NOT contain the word, Roberts. Remember, the Search form ALWAYS DEFAULTS to ALL BOARDS, and if you want to limit your search to a particular board, you MUST click on THIS BOARD. The above "hints" work with MOST search engines in cyberspace. Good Luck, Marilyn Strout Marilyn

    1. [MEWASHIN-L] RE: Campobello Research
    2. Heather Leighton Waddingham
    3. Hi! My suggestion would be to check out the Campobello Library and Museum (same building I believe). Not sure what is all in the library as I have never been there myself :) My other suggestion is to "walk" the cemeteries, you may be able to find information off the stones. I have SOME PARTIAL cemetery transcriptions on the Campobello web site... would love to have MORE if anyone is there this summer and happens to record some of the stones:) For that matter if anyone has ANYTHING pertaining to Campobello and would like to contribute it for the Campobello site I would gladly welcome NEW information: pictures, obits, cemetery transcripts... anything you think may be of interest to others... Sorry I do not know the library hours... let me know if I can be of any further assistance. 3. Hi Heather & Listers, Check out this link for an update on the Archives Room. http://www.state.me.us/sos/arc/ They don't anticipate opening until at least July 20th, and right now only have 1 phone line coming in. Because of substantial water damage (no records were lost but many require special treatment and reboxing) and asbestos removal, the Archives Search Room will be closed until July 2, 2001. State Agency access to the State Records Center is unaffected. Our microfilm will be available at the Maine State Library, thanks to their generosity, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional hours dependent on the availability of volunteer assistants. For a specific record of birth, marriage or death between 1892 and 1922 only, write to the Maine State Archives Vital Records Request 84 State House Station Augusta, ME 04333-0084 Please forgive delays as we work to recover from our near disaster and respond to research needs. 3. Hi! Further to my request last night for a marriage certificate look up, I totally forgot the archives is closed temporarily.... In any case, if someone could possibly help out when it reopens I can patiently wait:) I would like to get a copy of the marriage certificate for the following couple: Joseph BASSETT and Mary WILSON, both residents of Campobello NB. Married on November 27 1837, in Washington Co., Maine. The information is found on Marriage roll #7, Vol 1 Page 9 . I am hoping the certificate will have the parents names of this couple. I will glady re-inburse for any fees incurred. Please let me know if you can help! Thanks!!
