    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UEB.2ACE/204.2.1.1 Message Board Post: I may have a family connection to my GG-Grandmother, but unsure of the reliability at this time. I believe the familly she is related too is from ME, initially from New Brunswick, CAN. My GG-Grandfather was in the civil war and this I found out through research on Ancestry (when I had my membership) and because his and his wife's name matched and the states where they lived, I knew it was him. Plus I have a great-aunt still living that has told me that he was in the war. As far as their marraige information, I lucked out. I was directed to a different name website and in reviewing it found my GG-grandfather & GG-grandmother listed with the incorrected last name, with the listing of when they were married and where, also their son's name and his wife's name and where they resided, which I knew was exact. I then retrieved the information from the JCLS cards index, and viewed it on reel, and voila' there was the information with their names. They had lived in Massachuse! tts and Illinois. I haven't ruled out that the Deming's and Roix's that I am related too may possibly be connected to those in Wisconsin, but I don't have a connection at this time, I'm at a dead end. As for your Nellie Roix, I check familysearch.org and she is not listed. I did however find a Nettie Roix, lived in WI in 1860, born in IL, but she was married to a George Roix. What time frame are you looking at for your grandparents? I would love to continue to help you locate information on these people and who knows I may luck out and find the information I'm looking for at the same time. If you would like, you may email me at JKCarter101098@hotmail.com. Good luck.

    3. I have missed some of the prior recent exchanges concerning the Roix family, so am uncertain whether my following comments will be relevant or not. But as one of the messages referred to a NB Roix family I thought I should chime in a bit. One Roix family was of St George, NB. This was the family of Timothy Roix Sr, a Penobscot Loyalist. He, with his two adult sons John and Timothy Jr and their families, settled in NB in 1784, taking up land in the Mascarene section of St George. The spelling Roix was adopted gy this family following their settlement in NB. In the Penobscot Loyalist listings the name is spelled Roax. On some NB deeds, the name is given as Rourke. Timothy Sr married at Georgetown, ME as Roake in 1747, his wife being Margaret McCarty. His dau m in 1767 as Rouk. I believe Timothy was perhaps a descendant of the Ruck family of Salem, MA, but that is not proven. The above is further discussed and documented in an article which appeared in Generations, the journal of the NGB Gen Soc, in issue 50, of Dec 1991. The second point I would note is that Nelly is or was a nickname for Eleanor. Eleanor is a name found in several generations of the St George Roix family. Thirdly, some of this family is again found in Maine by the mid-1800s, especially in Washington Co. If relevant, some of the above may help. If not, please excuse this interjection.
