    3. OTHER Surnames and Areas Connected to PENLEY's include: from Kevin KING: lists at kdking dot com Hello, Let me add one thing to Janice's comments. Joseph Penley had 16 children, and I believe over 100 grandchildren. His eldest son, John, had 18 children of his own. Most of these 2nd and 3rd generation PENLEYs stayed in the Danville, now Auburn, area in Maine. And with that many of them in the 1800s in a town the size of Danville, if you can trace your roots to Danville back into the 1800s there is a VERY good chance there are Penleys mixed in there that you may have not found yet. Some, off the top of my head, families that married Penleys on a frequent basis are: DINGLEY, JORDAN, WAGG, GARCELON, -- and many more - that is just what I can remember. And as Janice said in another list: "There are some others, too, that are found among the descendants, some of whom spread west to the Minot, Noway / S Paris, Bethel areas and north into the Fayette, Jay, Livermore, Turner, Wilton, etc areas. They include: ACKLEY / AKELEY, CROCKETT, DAKIN, DAVIS, DYER, HACKETT, HAINES, HODGKIN, MARSHALL, MITCHELL, PACKARD, RANDALL, VICKERY, WATERHOUSE." So if you have Danville/Auburn ancestors in the 1800s and have hit a brick wall, then toss out some names - we have a large database of Penleys and related families and might just have what you are looking for... -Kevin Cousins, we are trying our best to find you. See my original post of 6-22-2005. THANKS, Kevin. Janice
