I was introduced to a man who I think was my mother's uncle. I remember calling him uncle Lunk. He restored and flew WWI aircraft. I went to see his planes and workshop (at the Pittsfield airport?). I recall he had a red baron plane, sopwith camel, and others. I seem to recall seeing him fly during the egg festival. He and a very elderly man were restoring the wing of an old bi-plane they had found somewhere in a barn. I appreciate any info anyone may have--Dave.

It remained in Kennebec until 1809 when Somerset Co was created. It remained in Somerset until 1838 when Franklin Co was created. There was a lot of county border changes during all this; some gaining ground, some losing. It was right on the southeast border of Kennebec and Somerset, but Somerset lost ground when Franklin was created and New Vineyard ended up in Franliin Co where is remains today. Hope this helps.E-mail me if you have any other questions B R Buckingham [email protected]

Surnames: Ma/erchant, Davis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UEB.2ACE/502 Message Board Post: Does anyone know if New Vineyard was a part of Somerset County between 1810-1830? My James S. and Olive (Davis) Ma/erchant family was know to have lived in New Vineyard during 1810-1820 and perhaps into the late 1820's. On several census records in Michigan 2 of James' sons state they were born in Somerset County 1 son b. 1817 the other in 1824, however I can find no evidence/proof to the statement. Franklin County was established in 1838. Prior to that I think New Vineyard was in Kennebec County, or was it in Somerset County? Any help with this conundrum would be greatly appreciated, Patti J.
