This is my family! You have just summarized much of the research I have done. I have some Goodale family stories/legends too. This week I have been looking at the Varain side, in fact, my father and I visited with Glenn Varain on Wednesday. What info. do you have about Honora being Charles and Maria's daughter? All I have is the 1870 census. (I just posted somewhere else tonight about the funeral book for Charlotte Varain.) Marriage Record: "Mr. Joseph F. Goodale of Ripley, Maine & Miss. Martha Clark of Alna a Cert. - 18 Aug. 1855." I got this from a microfilm: State of Maine. Alna Town & Vital records 1794-1892. (LDS FHL film #0010406- 2 lines to end of roll.) You can look up this record in the IGI index at familysearch.org

Kay, I can check into this for you. I have done a lot of research on the Moscow Bakers (who mostly moved up from Litchfield and are descended from Barnabas Baker of Cape Cod). Will get back to you when I've had a chance to consult my resources. Marilyn Marilyn Sterling-Gondek __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Looking for parents and siblings of Thomas J. Baker -- can anyone provide information? My ancestor, Thomas J. BAKER, was born about 1802/3 in Gouldsboro, Hancock County, Maine, according to his Boston death certificate. One of his son's death record also states his father was born in Gouldsboro. Thomas married Anna GATES in 1823 in Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. They moved from Grafton to Somersworth, Strafford County, New Hampshire, and then went on to Palmyra,Somerset County, Maine in the late 1830s where two of their children were born. Then they went back to Grafton. Thomas' death certificate lists his parents as William and Betsy; however, these were also the names of his first wife's parents. The info was provided by a subsequent wife and I am suspicious of the identical names. He did name his first son William J. Guess this could be after his father or his wife's father. I am researching Hancock County for the family origins. I also need to examine Somerset County and notice there were quite a number of Bakers in the Moscow area. Did any of them have a son Thomas? Thanks, Kay Fordham

I know the Sewalls lived in Orono at one time, Milford before that, but they have been a tough family for me to find. There was a prominent Sewall family in Old Town at the same time and they have similar names which adds to the problem. I vaguely remember going to visit Rose (probably in 1940s) but I've not been able to find record of her anywhere after the 1920 census. I always thought she had only one child but I had come across the other three recently. Your message confirms that for me. I didn't have a death date for her either so that helps, too. Again I appreciate your help...Mary

Jewell (1874 - 1920) buried in Fairview Cemetery, Canaan, with wife Rose L. (1879 - 1957) and Joyce Elaine, dau of Harry E. & Lillace M. Jewell (Apr 4 - October 2, 1929). Lots of Jewells in Canaan but no Sewalls. In another listing of Canaan VRs I find Charles M. Jewell & Rose L. Sewall having children in the 1892-1910 period. He is listed as a butcher born in Canaan and she is listed as being born in Orono - that may be a clue to where to look for your Sewalls. My grandmother kept a scrapbook of obits and other bits of news of people in Canaan/Skowhegan area. I found an obit for Charles Jewell who d 1920 when he was 46. Says he was b in Canaan, son of Joseph and Emma (Walker) Jewell - a highly respected citizen - dealer in live stock for many years - devoted husband and father - member of Foster Libby camp, Sons of Veterans - leaves a widow, formerly Mrs. Rose (Sewall) Folsom of Bangor, three children, Harry, Lee, Louise and a step-son Walter Folsom of Bangor, two brothers, Frank of Haverhill, Mass.; Elwood of Canaan, four sisters Mrs. John Harris of Fairfield, Mrs. Cecil Chase of Hartland, Mrs. Addie Sargent of Skowhegan and Mrs. Chas. Goodrich of Waterville. By coincidence, Charles Jewell would be related to me. His mother Emma Walker Jewell was sister to my gr grandmother Cora Walker Furber. Let me know if I can help further. Do you have any information on Rose Sewall Jewell and Charles M (Lee) Jewel? I know they lived in Canaan and I believe she died 10 Sep 1903. I assume they are buried there. Can you tell me where? Any info appreciated. The Sewall's, including Rose, have been a real road block for me.
I looked at the Rev War papers of all the names spelled Elliot/Eliot and Samuel was the only one so far that went to Vermont to live after serving in the war of 1812. I will look more to see if any moved to NH or Maine as so many went north to claim Land bounties. By the way I noticed that one child is named Andrew and naming patterns were done so much at that time.
