    1. [MESOMERS] Shorey Family Maine
    2. Hi, I was wondering if any one has any knowledge of these people and if I am on the right trail. I have a Nancy Shorey born April 15,1812 in Solon Maine. She married a William H. Mitchell. I believe her parents were an Ichabod Shorey born about 1770-1780 and Polly Hilton. Nancy had a brother Richard Shorey born abt 1808 who married a Caroline Mackie. 2 of Richard's daughters married Mitchell's. They were Olive Shorey who married Henry William Mitchell and Dorcas who married ALonzo Mitchell. On the 1920 census I find Ichabod Shorey living next door to a Benjamin Shorey born about 1787 in Palermo Maine. I am pretty sure they were probably brothers .I have searched the family search.org site and found that both Benjamin and Ichabod were married in Lebanon Maine. This must mean that they are part of the Shorey family who came from Kittery Maine. I have found that Ichabod Shorey also lived in Palmyra and Piscataquis according to the census reports. Ichabod's wife Polly is interred in the cemetery in Shirley Maine. Leslie Freeman ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

That helps me! If Arthur Spaulding and Betsy Marrow, in question did come from North Hill, right near Athens... that is where my Nancy Merrow and John Tuscan got married. And it would maybe link them as inlaws maybe.. and if this Spaulding is of the family that had the Toscan papers that were donated to the NH. G. Soc. , .. this could be a connection to JOHN TOSCAN , to our JOHN TUSCAN. I want to find more that will connect them though. I have looked EVERYWHERE the State of Maine Lib. said that our name TUSCAH is very rare, and this is a complex story.. which has alot of "lilkelohood" in a connection. They referred me to the NEHGS in Mass. But to hire someone there is a fee of course. I will have to wait to do that, until I have $ to spare. Will keep looking for free resources or help because this can be expensive. Thanks so much for responding and all of your kind help! I am trying to find the father and mother of our gr. grandfather x3 John Tuscan b. 1787 supposedly in Ma. Married Nancy MERROW in Athens in 1810. I am hoping to find someone who would know where NORTH HILL used to be in the time period of 1814, supposedly NEAR ATHENS MAINE. Does anyone know where or what North Hill was? Because there is an Arthur Spaulding that married a Betsy MARROW.. in 1814 and it was mentioned to me that they wondered if this Betsy, could have been the sister of Nancy. I am trying to find a Spaulding connection to the TUSCAN line in Bingham/ Solon, Maine.. that may or may not link up to a well known Dr. James A. Spaulding who donated THE "TOSCAN" Papers to the New Hampshire hist. soc. If there is a Spaulding connection way back that far.. it would be likely that a Jean Joseph Maria Toscan(Vice Consul from France in NH. 1781) even though he married an Eliz. Parrot in 1790, I am wondering if he is our John's father either by an earlier marriage or out of wedlock and I want to prove or disprove this. Is Arthur Spaulding who married Betsy Marrow related to Dr. James A. Spaulding who lived in NH! . and died in Portland Maine? It could connect the TUSCANS to the TOSCANS... or not.. Any one have any information on any of my confusing story above along with any Merrow or Marrow info from that time period, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Sally Foster Solon. 2. Janice R Freeman
    3. See additional surnames below. Make your plans now to attend the PENLEY Reunion at 2 PM, Sunday, 8 July 2007 at Penley Corner Church, (South) Riverside Drive, Auburn, Maine. That is just a few hundred feet south of the Auburn city limit sign on the west side of state route 136 that goes from Freeport to Auburn (3 miles south of the Court House in Auburn and the Auburn - Lewiston bridge). There are many descendants throughout Maine today. Be sure to read thru the list of known surnames for the daus and gdaus that are listed below. Two years ago, I met a PENLEY desc in the waiting room of a car dealership in Brunswick and the PENLEY surname was several generations back. If you have a PENLEY ancestor from Maine or MA, it is highly probable that you are a descendant of our progenitor, Joseph 1 PENLY b 1755 England - d 1844 Maine who arrived in Freeport, Maine in 1770. Joseph and his 1st wife, Esther 5 FOGG JOHNSON, had 10 children before her death in 1796. Joseph 2m 1797 Thankful MOODY with whom he had 6 children. The following is a list of most of the surnames that the daus and gdaus of Joseph 1 PENLY had as a result of their known marriages. There are many other surnames by now with as many as 10 generations in some lines. ACKLEY / AKELEY, CROCKETT, DAKIN, DAVIS, DINGLEY, DYER, GARCELON, HACKETT, HAINES, HODGKIN, JORDAN, MARSHALL, MITCHELL, PACKARD, RANDALL, VICKERY, WAGG, WATERHOUSE The first major move of the family was abt 1792 when Joseph and Esther moved their family from Freeport to Danville. Many of their children lived their entire lives in the greater Lewiston - Auburn area, but gradually over the first half of the 1800's some moved into almost every Maine county, including Androscoggin, Aroostook, Cumberland, Franklin, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Sagadahoc, Somerset, and York counties. The next major move involved the grandchildren and great grandchildren that went to work in MA. We know of others who moved to / thru NY, PA, and then on to the northwestern areas from WI and MN through the Dakotas and on to CA. Some went to MO or KS, then on to CO. One gs went to Ontario and has descendants now living across Canada in ON, SAS, AL, and BC, while some returned to the US thru MI. One G gdau and her husband were missionaries in India and all but one of their ch were b there. One G gs stayed in MS after the Civil War, married, and many of his descendants now live there. We know of descendants who lived or are now living in AR, AZ, CA, CT, CO, FL, IL, IN, KS, OH, OR, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MS, NC, NH, NY, ND, PA, TX, VA, WA, and WI. I have had the great personal pleasure of talking by phone with some of them and even receiving a few family pictures. One family group was from a man in TX whose gm's sister m a PENLEY of some KS desc. And the sender (not a PENLEY) turned out to be a sixth cousin of my husband (who was from TN) ! What a small world when we drop our surnames ! Family genealogists will be available both before and after the meeting to receive information from descendants and discuss your line with you. If you can trace your PENLEY line to New England, especially ME or MA, the chances are very good that you are a descendant of Joseph 1 PENLY. If you are unable to be at the reunion on July 8th, PLEASE contact me. And if you know of other PENLEY descendants, please let me know how to contact them by sending an e-mail directly to me: snibbor13at junodotcom. 3. Embden Town of Yore says that Nancy Bois was the second wife of David Stevens, that she was from Madison, and that they married in 1828. It says they resided "above the ferry" and "were a splendid old fashioned couple." There are a few more remembrances in that book on page 164. There is a history of the town of Madison that may have more information. I am looking for the will of John Welch who died December 1859 in Athens. His wifes name was Mehitable. I think he had the following sons: Bray, Benjamin, John and Philip. Trying to verify that he is indeed the father of Philip. I am willing to pay for any costs associated with getting a copy of this will! If you are willing to help me, or can point me in the right direction..please email me at [email protected] Thanks so much!
