This should get you back a bit more, unless you already have this. Peter Walker m 31 Jan 1799 in Woolwich, ME to Rachel Cross. Rachel was b at Woolwich 26 April 1773, daughter of John and Sarah Cross. Robert Perkins Walker was b at Woolwich 19 oct 1807 These are from the IGI and extracted from the Woolwich records. Microfilm copies should be at the Maine State Archives or you can order the microfilms of the Woolwich records from any LDS family history center and look at them. Peter and Rachel also had a son, John C Walker, b in Woolwich about 1802. In the 1850 census John is a farmer living in Brighton, ME. With him are his wife Jane, children Lovina and Lydia, and his widowed mother Rachel Walker, age 77. Peter and Rachel's daughter Rachel, age 46, is also living in Brighton in 1850, unmarried, in the home of Isaac Whitten. In the 1880 census, Peter Walker, son of Peter and Rachel said that both his parents were born in Maine. There is another Peter Walker who may or may not be connected. In Vol II of the Georgetown VR, p 77, Peter Walker of Topsham and Mary Lamboard m Jan 18, 1777. That is wonderful information. And I know that it is the same Peter Walker, because his son, Robert, is my ancestor who moved to Ohio. From there, the family, as I think I had indicated in my earlier posting, moved to Michigan. It has been so frustrating to be able to get back to Brighton Plantation, but have no real sense of who these people were. Now, if I can just find a way to trace Peter back to Scotland, I will be delighted. But for now, this is splendid. Thank you. Walker son to Peter and Rachel his wife born Nov 22, 1816 Robert Walker son to Peter Walker and Rachel his wife born Oct 14, 1807 Intentions: Mr Peter Walker and Miss Hannah Weeks intend marriage. Brighton July 2, 1840 Deaths: Hannah Walker wife of Peter Walker and daughter of John W Weeks Esq died Jan 1, 1845 aged 27 ys 15 ds The 1850 census shows the younger Peter living at the hotel in Brighton. No occupation is listed. The Weeks family seems to have owned or run the hotel at that time. Brighton was a busy farming and lumbering community in the 1800's but is now an unincorporated township with a very small population. One of the Walker brothers, Isaiah, seems to have moved to the Clinton Maine area in Kennebec County by 1840. It appears that the elder Peter and his wife may have died sometime between 1840 and 1850. Perhaps that is why the younger Peter was living at the hotel after the death of his wife and some of the other brothers had moved away. I located him in the 1830 Maine census along with several children and a young wife. One of his older sons, Robert, traveled to Ohio and resettled, marrying a Permelia Emerson. The Walkers then moved to Montrose, Michigan, with some establishing farms in Lee Twp., Michigan. I am eager to track my ancestor's heritage to Scotland. My father, Joseph Frazier Walker, always maintained that Peter had come from Edinburgh. Also curious if there are any surviving Walkers in Brighton Plantation or thereabout.
