Lois Ware Thurston of Gardiner, Maine was the contributor. According to this information William Lawrence was the s/o Samuel and Hannah (Moore) Lawrence (North Yarmouth VR). There is mention of Charles who married Mary Hutchins, who resided in Ponal & Wellington, but no mention of children: My husband's ancestor is Nancy (Lawrence) Blake through their daughter, Cynthia (Blake) (Taylor) (Stevens) (Bourne) Peterson. In 1880 Nancy was living with her son, Alton Ezra Lawrence, in Lexington, Somerset, Maine. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My children are the last link in Wellington as far as I know, there are descendant's in Harmony, Dexter, Pownal, RI, NC and NY that I know and swap information with it's hard to find the link between Charles and Samuel. There was a sister to Charles named Nancy she married Nehemiah Blake after his death she went to Kingfield with her children I found her grave but have not found the children she was with, her husband and son are buried here in Wellington. Hello Donna - I have a subscription to NEHGS' NewEnglandAncestors.org. They have MA Vital Records to 1850 and MA Vital Records, 1841 - 1910, in addition to other databases. Google Books has a good number of the vital records books for various MA cities to 1850. Also, many libraries have access to Heritage Quest which also has these books online. The NEHGS records 1841 - 1910 have the original registers attached (in the majority of cases). Here is the URL for the Maine Historical Society holdings: http://www.mainehistory.org/library_holdings.shtml#church Hope this helps. Dear All, I am attempting to locate the property in Norridgewock that my Great Great Grandfather, Joshua Cushman Bigelow grew up on. I have been told that the best way to locate the property is to review the land titles, located at the Skowhegan Probate Court. The Moses that Donna shows here was 17 and the Baileys were 59 and 64. It would seem that he was an orphan or was living with his Grandparents. I also found AurellusC Wyman in Lowell, a single male with 3 kids, age 3 and 4 born in MA, and 9 born in ME, Moses would be 7 and born in ME. Slight possibility, but worth a try, The town clerk in Canaan is very helpful. They have a record book there that should give his birth record. Canaan Town - Town Clerk-Excise Tax RR 2, Canaan, ME 04924 (207) 474-8682 There were a number of Wymans in the area at that time. Several connected families (Kincaid,Lambert Wyman) came from the Wiscassett area about 1800. I would also write to the city clerk at Lowell. You have a definite date of his death. Thank you so much for your words of support. I'll check the Henderson-L! Donna >>> [email protected] 05/21 4:05 PM >>> I wish you well in compiling a Henderson file. I did the same with my Kincaid trees. I started with just my line, but later found it easier to make a file in Family Treemaker of all Kincaids from Maine. It helps to sort out who is connected to who. I have used it to help dozens of researchers over the years. I would now like to ask if anyone in their own research has found ANY Hendersons at all who may have married into their families or data that you just happen to have saved, or even people you might know by the name of Henderson that I could email. Henderson has been my brick wall for 40 years! Not my only brick wall, of course, but my favorite one. It's probably because I totally adored my grandmother, who was Winnifred Henderson Libby, b. 1893 in Easton, Maine. Her dad, Fred Samuel Henderson, was born in New Portland in 1860 to George Washington Henderson and Helen Mary Dickey. G.W. was b. c. 1832 in New Portland to a John and Mary Henderson. John and Mary are the elusive ones. After 40 years of sporadic research, I am resigned to probably not being able to decipher just which John and Mary Henderson they were, as I think there were more than one couple by the name. That said, over the years I have compiled volumes of info on stray Maine Hendersons. I want to self-publish a compendium of Maine Henderson data because I hate to see what I personally have researched just go to waste. However, I want to add to it. So my project over the next few years is going to be gathering Henderson data, and I turn first to all of you for what you might have and be willing to share... I do hope you can figure this line out as it has been most confusing. >From the research I have done I think Henry & John L. (S.) are her children by John Smart, yes the ages differ a bit but so has a lot of things in this line. In the 1870 Brighton census John S. is back listed as Smart. 1880 I found Reuben York & Betsey Smart back living together but both divorced. I know Betsy Tuttle married John S. Smart 20 Oct 1844 Brighton but I never found a marriage for her and Reuben York, so I think they may have been playing house without the license. The York, Tuttle, Smart & Corson all seem to connect in different ways and all the same. 1880 census York, Reubin daug/ Ida M. son/ Cyrus K. Smart, Betsy H. (mother of the two above) Smart, Henrietta (is the child of John S. & Julia Tuttle - granddaughter of Betsy) Corson, Eliza ( not sure how she connects). Please let me know what you figure out. I have a question did Betsey (Tuttle) Smart marry Reuben York or is the Betsey on the census in 1850 & 1860 actually a different Betsey. In 1850 in Rome is Reuben age 27. In 1860 in Brighton,Somerset is Reuben age 39 b. Maine living with WAshingtonn Tuttle family, also in 1860 in St. Albans,Somerset is Reuben York age 40 farmer b. Maine Betsey age 38 b. Maine Henry 13 "' John L. 11 Samuel 9 Susan 7 Emma 4 Samuel and Emma both show up in Brighton with Reuben in 1870 along with Celista age 10,Ida M. age 8 and Cyrus K age 8. NOw we have have a Betsey Smart age 49 with her son John L. age 22. In the next household of Isreal Tuttle is Julia Smart age 19 and Henrietta Smart age 9. In 1880 Henrietta shows up with Betsey Smart in Reubens household.. Also in 1850 there is Betsey Smart living in Cornville,Somerset Betsey Smart age 30 b. Maine Wm 5 "" Jno 2 "" With all this it seems that probably there are two different Betseys unless there is some proof that Reuben actually married Betsey ( Tuttle)Smart. Of course this all theory and I would like anyones input agreeing or disagreeing. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 5:41 PM Subject: Re: [MESOMERS] york surname in somerset, maine > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: SandyCarneiro74 > Surnames: York, Smart > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.maine.counties.somerset/1059.4.1.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Hi, This isn't much but it's a start for you. Hello, I just wanted to offer an FYI that many HENDERSON's came to Canada during the 1800's. This includes my William HENDERSON and his brother, Samuel HENDERSON, who arrived in Canada in 1823. They were part of a family-group which included KERR's, and a John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR. They had left County Sligo, Ireland, and settled in Argenteuil Co., Province of Quebec. The 5 couples had many children, and had many descendants, and many people are researching them. There are several Lists in Canada where they are discussed. My gr-gr-greatparents were Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON who were both born in Canada in 1827. They and their 5 children eventually moved to Compton Co., P.Q., and then came down to MA / US. During my research I have found out that a family of about 7 HENDERSON brothers arrived in North America in the early 1800's. I don't remember the details but they should be discussed on some of the Lists - probably Canadian Lists. I wish you well in compiling a Henderson file. I did the same with my Kincaid trees. I started with just my line, but later found it easier to make a file in Family Treemaker of all Kincaids from Maine. It helps to sort out who is connected to who. I have used it to help dozens of researchers over the years. Have you looked at the Henderson Archives on Rootsweb? _RootsWeb: HENDERSON-L Archives_ (http://searches2.rootsweb.com/th/index/HENDERSON) Keep up he good work! Richard A Kincaid kincaidsofmaine In a message dated 05/21/08 11:53:39 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Good morning, I have posted before and shared info with a couple of people on this listserve in our search for our elusive Henderson family members.
