I haven't gone over there yet a friend of ours was the town clerk for a while and she found what she could on my Lawrence line I think at the time it cost me $7.50 for the copies. You could call her mother-in-law June Cromwell the phone number is 654-2532 she might be able to give you information on the office hours I was just told Saturdays only by my cousin who did some reseaarch there, there a lot of years missing as the town office burned back in the late 50's or early 60's. I'm not really looking up the Yorks because that is going off on my Great Great Grandmother's side and right now I'm more interested in finding out more about the Clark side of the family. I was hoping that if your York was related to mind that I might find some small bit of information that might lead me to something on the Clarks. Sometimes I think these people were born under some rocks because there is no where to look for them. I'm sorry you didn't have much luck in Solon because when I went there, they were very helpful. Do you have dates of marriages or deaths? I pick out some rough dates and sat and looked through their books and found the death of my Great Great Grandmother Sophie (Whose Mother was a York). That's the only way I have found information is by just sitting and going through books page by page until a name popped up and grabbed my attention. If you have time, try them again. Brighton is a little harder to get a hold of someone who will open up their little town hall. They are only open on Thursday nights and when I was in Maine last month, I kept calling the woman who opens the office and couldn't get in touch with her. She never returned my calls. I was going to see if she would open the hall for me and I would pay her to do it too, but still no returned call. That makes it hard to get information when you can't get into the places to look it up. I'm always grazing the c! ensus so if I come across you Richard York, I'll let you know. All I can find on my Richard is that he was married to Lydia Beals. But as for facts I can find none every time I find a lead it goes no where. I think my Richard was in the Brighton/Solon area so close to the line that I am not sure which town he was living in. I went to the Solon Town Office they had no record of him but then again they didn't really look they send me to Virginia Merrill who headed up the Historical Society but she was more interested in the Grant family that my fellow searcher was looking for. I saw the Richard/Polly family on the census record but the children didn't match. My Richard had a son named Wilson James there is also other children Forrest, Richard and a James I do not know about daughters then again this is all hear say I can't find the proof. I have been to the cemetery where Richard and Polly are buried. Found no leads for my line there. Have you been to the cemetery? I was wondering if he was related to my York. My Great Great Grandmother was Abigail York and she married Nathaniel Lombard and had 4 daughters that I know of, Buelah, Abigail, Sophia and Clarissa. Now I think Abigail married Hanson Small and there is a Nathaniel and Abigail York living near them in the census of Bingham June 1860. I also see a Richard York age 61 married to a Sally in the Bingham census of 1860 and then I see a Richard York married to a Polly living in Brighton, ME in June of 1860. Which Richard York are you? I hope you are mine so I can get some more info on my family. Thank you for whatever you can do for me or wherever you can send me to find out more information. My g-g grandfather was a Richard Harris, born in England. The 1860 census puts him in Moose River (near Bingham?), but I believe he is buried in Canaan (1898). He married Bridget O'Neil of Ireland. The censuses of later years are not in agreement with their origin. In fact, censuses of their children eventually say Richard and Bridget were born in Maine. I can say that I have a WILKINS man marrying ~1800 in "Maine" and he is one of my "concrete-block walls." I have found it is very difficult to find records in the "Maine" - before it became a State in 1820. William WILKINS and his wife moved to "Maine" in the 1770's, and I'm trying to find out if they had another child after they got there - the Samuel who married ~1800. And, I can't find William's death ~1800, either. I can also say that I have found out about a William TAYLOR in MA this year. And, just last week I found he might have had an African ancestry. The family I'm very interested in is Robert BANCROFT's family in MA, and one of his daughters, Elizabeth, married William. And, this extended family was very close to the Ponkapoag Tribe in MA. When William died, the widow was known as Bet TAYLOR, and she remarried to a Native American man. Because of my queries, I was reminded of a long time TAYLOR researcher in RI who also has "brick walls." And, a long-time researcher on the MAEssex List also has a William TAYLOR who is a "brick wall." Just some FYI's for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. In a related family, I also have a RICE couple moving to "Maine" in the 1790's. Many people from MA were moving to the "Northern Territory of MA" during the late 1700's to obtain - land - especially if they were veterans of the Rev. War. I need to go through all my books and see what I can find I have so much information but tieing it all together is taking forever.
