George W. Barnes was born Nov 7, 1800 in Maine. Died July 28, 1844 in Galena Twp., LaPorte Co., Indiana. In his will, George mentions siblings Hannah (Barnes) Wilcox (b. 1795 in Maine), Perry (b. 1813 in Maine), Olive (Barnes) Marston (b. 1801 in Maine) and brother, Joseph. George, Hannah, Perry and Olive were all in Galena Twp, LaPorte Co., IN by the mid 1830's. JOSEPH is not found in LaPorte county. I'm trying to determine whether Joseph Barnes, born abt. 1814 might be the brother that I'm looking for. Joseph and his wife, Mary W., are found in Canaan, Somerset, Maine in census records for the years 1860, 1870 and 1880. Does anyone recognize Joseph? Can you help tie him to a family? I'm also interested in determining whether this family group has a connection to the descendants of Phineas and Lois (Foster) Barnes of Onondaga Co., NY. Their descendants are also in this same small Indiana township in the 1830's. Thank you for any and all assistance. D. Nelson dnelson@csinet.net

Ardell: Outlook and I have a problem! Burnham L. was born to Vinal Estes, 47 born Carmel, Me and Blanche L. Luce born St. Albans, on 21 August 1891 in St. Albans. Burnham had brother Clyde and sister Viola. Burnham married Nina V. Jackson of Detroit (father Erwin E. Jackson of Detroit and mother Aurilla Reynolds of Unity) on 14 Oct, 1916 in Guilford, ME. Burnham and parents were residing in Parkman at the time. I do not have Nina's birth and death. Burnham L. died in Pittsfield hospital aged 77. His newspaper obit has handwritten date 1968 and headed Wellington. The state deaths and SSDI have 1969 as his death date, all agree he was 77. Need to get another source here. Richard Estes and Elizabeth McKusick (any spelling) were married 1853 (family info) and he died at age 40 in an accident. She was listed in the Troy census 1870 with Vinal W. 17; Eliza O. 12, Benjamin 9 and Burnham G.8. She married Asa Nichols Oct 10, 1877 and was in Madison census 1880 as wife of Asa with Burnham G., 17 stepson. In 1910 Madison census B., 48 was head of household and Elizabeth, mother, was 77 and the History of Madison says she died in 1910 aged 78. But the "late" Burnham Estes that had the home on Old Point Ave in1903 seems to be pretty lively in 1910, unless I am throughly confused. (yep!) I am also interested in who the Burnham Clinton Estes was that married Gertrude Hitchcock and lived in the Auburn area. also have some Burnhams in the Bangor census 1870 age 40, and in the 1873-1880 directories. Marian

Page 153 of the published Troy, Maine VR [Vital Records of Troy, Maine Prior to 1892, Maine Genealogical Special Publication No. 21, edited by Ralph E. Hillman, Picton Press, Camden, Maine, May 1995]: Mr. Asa S. Nichols of Anson and Miss Elizabeth B. Estes of Troy, [intentions] Sept. 20, 1877 [marriage] Sept. 25, 1877. There is no mention of a Burnham Estes in the Troy VR. I would like to know the parents of the Burnham L. Estes, first husband of Nina Velzora Jackson, they married in Pittsfield 1912. He died in Pittsfield 1983. Perhaps there is a connection between the two Burnham Estes. Ardell At 04:30 PM 1/20/04 -0500, Marian T. Were there 2 Burnhams in Madison? If he is with Elizabeth, the mother, in 1910, when did he die? Thanks for the other info, tho, will sort it out. I am working on Burnham Leroy's family for his son, Burnham Glen Estes. Didn't realize so many Burnhams. Do you know where that name came from in the family? Marian
Burnham went to Madison from Troy when his widowed mother, Elizabeth McKusick Estes, married Asa Nichols. He was listed in the 1880 and 1910 Madison census. The History of Madison, page 50 of the new version, refers to the "late" Burnham Estes and seems to be in an article presented in 1903. Does someone have information on this man? Marian
