For the person who was looking for Prescotts in some obscure place... Lexington Plt. Now keep in mind that Highland Plt. and Lexington Plt. are adjacent places. Both are pretty rural. They're up in the boonies, for sure. If you were to look at a map of today, Lexington is just outside North New Portland. "New Portland" has 3 villages - North, East, and West. They're all the same town - just little sections. Lexington and Highland Plts. are north west out of North New Portland. I have the 1860 Census of Lexington Plt. I found: John Prescott age 76y Farmer Liv w/ John Newall & Family he's listed as a farmer and born in Vermont John Prescott age 42y b. Maine Farmer Hannah C age 36 Alma age 14 Augusta E age 12 Henry age 10 James age 11 Franklin age 5 All born in Maine Does any of this ring a bell? Nancy > >

Hanson, Native of Palmyra, Veteran of the Civil War -- Died in Oregon The death of Phineas T. Hanson, a native of Palmyra, occurred in St. Johns', Oregon, April 30th. A local paper has the following: Phineas T. Hanson, one of St. John's pioneers, was laid at rest in Columbia cemetery, his comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic and Women's Relief Corps performing the last sad, solemn, patriotic rites, following Christian Science services. Born of Revolutionary stock in Palmyra, Maine, a few days more than seventy-seven years ago, his life has been a full one. In 1861, at President Lincoln's call, he volunteered and served with distinction in the 9th Maine Volunteers. His enlistment period up, he re-enlisted on the battle field and helped finish the job. Returning to the native state, he married Miss Adele Johonot and made a home near East Corinth, but Oregon called and thirty-seven years ago he moved with his family to St. Johns and helped build up this important adjunct to Portland's prosperity. His was a well known figure here. He was active in all civic affairs. His unfailing courtesy and kindness made him a host of friends here and in Maine. These mourn his depar! ture and tender respectful regret to his widow, daughter, grandchildren and relatives." Mr. Hanson leaves, besides his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Mabelle Gordon, of Portland, Oregon and a grandson, James Gordon, born in Butte, Mont. There are also five grandchildren, born to a daughter, Blanche Louise Marey, now deceased. Mrs. Hanson had four brothers widely scattered, Lewis Johonnot, a sugar planter in Hawaii; Rev. Rodney F. Johonnot of Bellows Falls, VT.; Nelson Johonnot of Corinna, Maine and Fred Johonnot of Los Angeles, Cal. Bangor Daily News, Bangor, Maine, 21 May 1919, Wednesday, p. 2.

This would mean Township 2, Range 2, Bingham's Kennebec Purchase, West of the Kennebec River - T2 R2 BKP WKEN R. Looking at a Maine Atlas, this appears to be the Highland Plantation area.
The "W Vien Riv" listing which appears in many indexes of the 1850 census of Somerset County is the result of a misreading. The actual listing should be "W. Ken. Riv." The census marshal made his "K" as two very separate marks, so that it appears to the later transcriptionist as "V i" The township in question is now known as Highland Plantation, but in 1850 was known by its survey location, "Township 2, Range 2, West of the Kennebec River." I hope this helps. Larry Glatz Harrison, Maine

Now his ‘town’ is Township 3, Range 3 west of the Vien River." Might be township 2, Range 2.
Hello: I"m looking for Hattie/Harriet Snow. She married (presumably) in Skowhegan to Lucius W Elliot (LDS says Mar 21 1864) They were in Skowhegan in the 1870 Census with Charles W age 5 and Frank M 1/12. Lucius moved to New Sharon and later married Mary F Gordon in 1877 in New Sharon and in 1880 they're in New Sharon with a Charles, a Son Max (who may be Frank M) and a dau. Katie, presumably by Mary. No record of Hattie being buried in New Sharon, so I suspect she may be buried in Skowhegan. Interested in finding more info on her, her buriel site, and her parents, if possible. Thanks! Nancy
