Surnames: Staples Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UEB.2ACE/427.1 Message Board Post: I was at the probate office in Skowhegan today (Somerset County) and I checked their records for your query. I did find a record of the appointment of an administrator for the estate of Ruth Staples of Flagstaff, d. 23 Sept 1873. The fiche was very faded and hard to read, but I did make a copy of it. It listed the surviving children and I could make out most, but not all, of the names. Among them was a Noah B. Staples and what looked like Rutha Sanborn. If this helps, contact me separately and I'll give you the rest of the details. Unfortunately, there was no mention of parentage for the deceased.

    3. Hello, I noticed the recent 1924 obit from the Waterville Sentinel and thought I would ask all of you for input on what newspapers are available for Somerset County and where they might be viewed. I am interested in very early newspapers, anything up to 1860-70. Do any of you know what the pertinent newspapers were in that time frame and if they are available on microfilm? Thanks, Donna Tyler Cummings Thanks, Donna Donna Tyler Cummings USM School of Business donnac@usm.maine.edu

May be able with some research to connect them. I did though find some of yours in the 1860 Census of various places in Maine. If you need this information, let me know and I will post it for you. Also, I will be going to St. Albans (next township from me) in the near future. I will keep your email and information and take it with me to do some checking for you. Brenda

We assume this is also John's child because his last name in later years is Wilson. John is born 1847. His father is born about 1821 and is there in the 1850 census also, but not living with John Jr. They both move to WI, Plainfield, Waushara Co. I am searching for any information on who John's brothers and sister are and both of his parents. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Dolly Trickey

    3. Can't say one way or the other, have talked to others who did but I just have not found anything on John Smart's parents other than land deeds which say his parents were Betsy HILTON & John SMART. John Smart senior died about 1774 in Newmarket or Exeter. Betsy's parents were Edward & Elizabeth Hilton. The only records I have been able to find has been land deeds. If anything sound similar please let me know because like I said I just do not have any proof. Sandy ----- Original Message ----- From: B. 3. Hi Brenda, Are they related to John & Lucy? What dates do you have on them? This line just amazed me because both parents died in 1840 leaving 7 children and Mary age 14 the oldest. By 1850 the children are some what scattered and a few I could not find like little Lucy who was probably adopted out. Martha would have been 22 and probably married. Elsy died in Mayfield in 1844, just 4 years after her parents so someone local must have taken her. Sure would like to know. Thanks for writing, appreciate your kindness. It's my last remaining proof for a Mayflower lineage leading to Governor William Bradford. I've written various Town Clerks and Counties. The Weld and Eustis vital records don't start until 1892. The Sumner records show the marriage, but not the birth/marriage of the couple's child. Turner comes up empty. Flagstaff records are purportedly in Eustis, and I'm told nothing is there for my folks' names. County inquiries have turned up nothing so far. I'm hoping someone can direct me to a local church where 1817 births might have been recorded, or where the records of the local Justices of the Peace might be, or to any other resources that might be helpful in proving the birth of Rutha Eunice Staples. I'm also looking for someone who would search the Maine Archives in Augusta for probate records for either Noah or Rutha (Bradford) Staples... paid, of course.
