    1. re: lots of Norton's
    2. Dear Doris, My, you definitely have your share of Norton's. It was very kind of you to spend so much time in documenting them into your email. I will try to fill in as many holes as I can per each separate email. I will copy your text and answer it in a color for you. If you have anything to add to each that I don't document let me know as well. So here goes with the first few in your query. 1. Albert Norton, b. abt. 1871 at Portland, married Eleanor A. Chase of Limestone who d. aft 1950 at Newton. This one is pretty interesting, as I live in Newton, MA. I need more details of when they married and where they lived 1930 and prior. 2. Alice Norton, b. abt. 1678 at Ipswich, MA, dau. of George Norton and Sarah Hart who d. abt. 1730 at Ipswich, Mar. 10-25-1699 at Ipswich to Robert Kimball of Ipswich. I have all Norton vitals of Ipswich, and as you probably know, no Alice is mentioned other than her marriage. 3.Alonzo Norton, b. c. 1830 NY mar. Laura unk. of CA, had dau Mary Ann Norton 7-15-1860. Mary Ann d. 8-23-1938, mar. Arthur Guy Malcolm Chase, b. 6-17-1860 at Fayette, ME, d. 6-2-1909 at Blue Lake, CA. They had 3 children. I have made a point of staying out of NY Norton genealogy as much as I can, other than those that came from Martha's Vineyard and moved there in the very early years. 4.Bezaleel Norton, b. 12-1-1806, son of Samuel Norton and Elizabeth Dunton both of Edgecomb, ME. Samuel was son of John Norton and Sarah. Samuel and Elizabeth also had Frederick Ball Norton, 4-20-1802, Harriot, 10-7-1803, Henry, b. 7-17-1805. I would love to know who this John and Sarah Norton were. I have the same information that is from a book called Vital Records of Lincolnville, ME. After picking everything apart in the book and working with the 1850 census, I have never been able to determine where they went. I do have from Lincolnville Vital Records a Harriett Norton m Philip Carver in 1825 in Lincolnville, and Henry married (1). Rachel Todd June 18, 1827, & (2) Francis Heal Jan 6 1841. Again, where these male Norton's went is still a mystery to me. 5.Blanch E. Norton, of Dover-Foxcroft, MEe, mar. 9-7-1898 at Dover to Moses L. Ames, b. 5-9-1868 at Dover Foxcroft, had dau. Joyce N. Ames, b. 11-4-1899.This one is easy. She is in my line of Norton's. Moses L died 1955 and is buried in the Dover Cemetery, Oakes section, with his wife. He was the son of Samuel W. Ames b 1821 and died 1910 and Abby P. Trundy b Feb 8 1830 and died Nov 14 1894. Both are buried at the French Mill Cemetery, Sangerville, ME. Blanche was the daughter of Elijah Jr. Norton and Sarah Hutchinson. Elijah b Jan 1836 in Garland, s of Elijah and Julia Hill Norton. Elijah jr. died 1924. Wife Sarah was b May 1849 in Sangerville and died 1926, both are buried at the Brown Cemetery, Dover. Moses and Blanche's daughter Joyce N Ames was b Nov 4 1899 and died Feb 15 1991 in Auburn, ME. Her residence at the time of her death on her death record was Bailey's Island, Cumberland CO., ME. She married Lester Clinton Starbird b Jun 30 1901 and died in Farmington, ME Jan 1987. They had a son named Robert Starbird. I can go back about 4 more generations on Blanche if you need, and then there is the famous New Portland Brick Wall, I've been battling for years. :) More will follow, Debby B

    3. Hi, Listers: I need some help in Skowhegan. In the 1830 Census Index there's a Francis W SWAN. He doesn't appear in the 1840 Census. I don't know how old he was, who he married, or it he had any children. Here's what I suspect. He had at least one child - a Francis Wilson Swan in 1831. That child later had a name change to BUTLER. According to the probate record, both his parents had died by the time he was 3 yrs old. So if Francis of the Census died circa 1834/35 I wonder if he shows up on any of the cemetery records for Skowhegan. And if there's a wife or possibly a name for her. I also wonder if they might have had a child named Louisa/Louesa. Can anyone help me? Nancy

    3. There is a book (finding aid) that the Maine State Archives sells called "Microfilm List - Early Maine Town and Vital Records." The majority of the films are those filmed by the Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah in the 1950s, available at the state archives and also at Family History Centers throughout the country. The Family History Centers also have microfilm of cemetery records in Maine. Check out familysearch.org for a list of FHC and their catalogue of what they have available on Somerset Co.
