My 6th gr. grandfather was Abraham Merritt b:1732/1735 Springfield Twp., Burlington Co., NJ, d: 1766, married Rachel Gaskill, b: 18 Nov 1739 Springfield Twp., Burlington Co., NJ. Her parents were Jonathan Gaskill and Jane Shinn. His parents, I have been told but do not have proof, were Abraham Merriot/Merritt and Sarah ? Their children were: (1) Abraham b: 1757/58, d: ?, married Garthory Brooks on 02 Dec 1785 (2) Ann b: ca 1759, d: ?, married Curtis Shinn 15 Nov 1797, (3) Caleb b: 08 Mar 1760, d: ?, married (1) Mary Bennett on 15 Nov 1777 (2) Mary Garwood on 07 May 1797 (4) Levi b: ?, d: ?, married Elizabeth Scott, (5) Charity b: ?, d: ?, married Levi Gaskill. Caleb Merritt and Mary Bennett were my 5th gr grandparents. Caleb was b: 08 Mar 1760 in Burlington Co., NJ, d: Jan 1832 in Alexander Twp., Athens County, OH, married Mary Bennett on 15 Nov. 1777, b: ca 1753 (?) Fayette Co., PA, d: ca 1790 in Fayette Co., PA. Her parents were John Bennett and Mary Kendall. His parents were Abraham Merritt and Rachel Gaskill. Children were: (1) John b: 1780, d: ?, (2) Unity b: 16 Jan 1784, d: 22 May 1826 in Meigs County, OH, married Thomas Sharp on 24 Mar 1801 (3) Elizabeth Ann b: 1787, d: before 1856, married John Wood. (Elizabeth Ann Merritt and John Wood were my 4th gr grandparents). I believe there were two other children as there were 5 children listed on the 1790 census, both daughters.
